Tension flared in West Bengal's Burdwan city following the discovery of slaughtered cattle remains being dumped near a bridge under the cover of darkness. The incident took place in the Ramudi Colony (Mirchoba) area, located within Ward Number 16 of the city, where individuals were caught unloading chopped animal parts from a vehicle. Prompt intervention by local law enforcement led to the immediate detention of three suspects at the location.
Late-Night Discovery and Confrontation
The situation came to light when local resident and BJP Dakshin assembly shakti kendra chief for mandal number four, Prashant Majumdar, was traveling toward Nilpur after finishing work late at night. While passing the bridge situated in front of Ramudi Colony, he spotted several individuals unloading items from a transport vehicle. Finding the nocturnal unloading suspicious, he turned back to question the group, who initially claimed it was routine cargo removal.
Unconvinced by their evasive replies, Prashant Majumdar turned on his mobile phone flashlight to inspect the cargo, revealing large quantities of slaughtered bovine remains being discarded onto the roadside. As word of the discovery spread, local residents gathered at the spot in anger. Community leaders and local police authorities were promptly alerted to prevent any further escalation.
Police Deployment and Community Grievances
Recognizing the sensitivity of the incident, the Inspector-in-Charge of Burdwan Police Station arrived at the spot with a police contingent to secure the perimeter and defuse tensions. Officers swiftly took three suspects into custody for interrogation. Residents of the area alleged that the dumping was not an isolated act and suspected it was being orchestrated under instructions from an influential figure or local resident of the Mirchoba locality.
Residents voiced serious concerns regarding the foul stench and accompanying public health hazards caused by dumping animal waste in the open. They also raised alarms over potential attempts to disturb social harmony and communal peace within the neighborhood. The local community strongly condemned these unauthorized waste disposals and called for an immediate halt to all related illicit operations.
Demands for Investigation and Administrative Response
Raju Chandra, the municipal mandal president, arrived at the scene shortly after the confrontation to assess the developments. Demanding an impartial administrative inquiry, he questioned the origin of such large volumes of animal remains, where they were loaded, and whose patronage allowed the public locality to be exploited as an illegal dumping ground. He insisted on a complete crackdown on such operations across the state and stated that the issue would be escalated to the Chief Minister. Police and administrative officials assured the gathered public of prompt action and strict legal measures against all individuals found responsible.
