A brutal clash broke out between rival inmates inside a prison located in the state of Sinaloa, Mexico, leaving 10 people dead and 16 prisoners injured on Thursday. The fatalities include nine incarcerated individuals alongside a minor visitor who had arrived at the facility to see an inmate when the violence erupted.
Armored Vehicles and Security Forces Deployed to Secure Facility
In response to the severe outbreak of violence, authorities immediately mobilized dozens of security personnel to regain control of the compound. The situation required rapid intervention, prompting armored vehicles and multiple ambulances to enter the prison grounds. Security forces engaged in intense efforts before successfully restoring order across the facility. Paramedics attended to the 16 wounded inmates as emergency operations continued inside the compound.
Unknown Trigger in a Region Plagued by Drug Cartel Warfare
State Public Security Secretary Sinuhe Telles confirmed the casualty figures in a video address shared on social media, detailing the deaths of nine inmates and one visiting minor alongside the injuries suffered by 16 others. Official sources have not yet disclosed the precise dispute or cause that triggered the confrontation. Sinaloa has long served as a violent hub for rival drug trafficking syndicates and cartel turf wars. Mexico has witnessed devastating penal clashes in the past, including an incident approximately ten years ago in another prison where 49 inmates lost their lives.
