Early Friday morning on October 23, 2026, seismic tremors shook multiple regions across Asia, with sudden ground movements experienced in China, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquakes recorded across these three nations this morning measured 4.1, 4.4, and 4.9 on the Richter scale respectively. This widespread activity follows a massive and devastating earthquake that struck Tibet just a day prior on Thursday, October 22, leaving widespread destruction in its wake.
Massive Devastation From Tibet Earthquake
The powerful earthquake that hit China's remote Tibet region on Thursday registered a magnitude of 7.0 on the Richter scale. According to the US Geological Survey, the seismic event occurred at 10:33 PM or 1433 GMT. At least 18 people have lost their lives in this disaster, while dozens of others sustained injuries. The epicenter was located in a mountainous terrain approximately 190 kilometers or 120 miles east-northeast of Nagqu and 390 kilometers northeast of the regional capital Lhasa. Local officials reported via China Central Television that 46 individuals were injured, with 11 of them listed in critical condition. Furthermore, a total of 339 homes collapsed or suffered extensive structural damage.
Morning Tremors Across Three Countries
Just a day after the Tibet disaster, fresh earthquakes were registered across three neighboring countries on Friday morning. Data from the National Center for Seismology indicates that an earthquake of 4.1 magnitude struck Afghanistan at 5:54 AM. In Pakistan, a 4.9 magnitude tremor was recorded at 4:56 AM. Additionally, China experienced a 4.4 magnitude earthquake at 6:05 AM. These consecutive tremors have caused anxiety among local residents, though no immediate reports of major casualties have emerged from these morning events.
Infrastructure Disruptions And Weather Challenges Highlighted By Authorities
According to reports from China's state news agency Xinhua, the violent tremors caused communication systems to fail in several parts of the affected region. As a precautionary measure, emergency authorities stepped in to halt train services passing through the area. Landslides triggered by the earthquake forced the closure of a section of National Highway 317. Xinhua has also warned that intermittent snowfalls are expected in the earthquake-hit zone over the next three days, posing further challenges to ongoing recovery efforts.
