A senior medical professional in Agra has issued specific guidelines and warnings regarding how people should handle physical injuries in day-to-day life. According to the expert, if an individual experiences unbearable pain and significant swelling following an injury, the symptoms must never be ignored. In the initial stage when the pain is mild and swelling is slight, applying cold packs wrapped in a cloth is acceptable. However, people must strictly avoid applying hot fomentation or massaging the injured area.
Medical professionals explain that if the pain is severe, the swelling continues to increase, or it becomes difficult to move the affected limb, it could indicate a bone fracture. In such scenarios, an X-ray should be conducted without any delay alongside consulting a nearby doctor. If the shape of the limb has altered or it is impossible to bear weight on it, immediate medical assistance must be sought. It is impossible to determine whether a bone is broken or a muscle is torn solely based on surface pain and swelling, as the exact medical condition can only be identified through a professional clinical examination.
Strictly avoid hot packs and oil massages
Dr. Ashish Mittal, a senior physician at the district hospital in Agra, has emphasized the need for utmost caution following any bodily injury. He explained that whenever and wherever an injury occurs on the body, immediate hot fomentation or massage should be completely avoided. Instead, cold therapy using ice wrapped in cloth is the appropriate approach. According to the doctor, if the pain remains high or swelling keeps growing after an injury, ignoring it can be dangerous. Under such circumstances, getting an X-ray and taking expert medical advice is essential. He noted that showing carelessness towards injuries can aggravate pain and swelling, multiplying the patient is discomfort, which is why timely diagnosis and proper treatment are vital.
Do not move the injured limb or lift heavy weights
Dr. Ashish Mittal further advised that patients should refrain from repeatedly moving the injured site. Giving the body adequate rest is extremely critical during such times. Lifting heavy weights or putting excessive pressure on the affected limb right after an injury can easily worsen the medical condition.
Dr. Ashish Mittal also highlighted a common hazard where people often buy and consume medicines directly from medical stores on their own accord to seek quick relief from pain, which can prove to be harmful. He strongly advised that no medication should be consumed without proper medical consultation. If pain and swelling continue to rise after an injury, visiting a qualified doctor in time for proper treatment is the safest course of action.
