Political friction in Uttar Pradesh intensified on Friday as Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya launched a sharp critique against the state's principal opposition party during his visit to Kanpur. Rumours had been circulating across political corridors following an interaction between Cabinet Minister Rakesh Sachan and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav. When questioned about the implications of this meeting, Maurya brushed aside speculation of any ruling party leader defecting, instead turning the narrative around with a sarcastic claim about the opposition leader seeking entry into the ruling fold.
Sarcastic Retort Over Ministerial Meeting
The recent interaction between Cabinet Minister Rakesh Sachan and Akhilesh Yadav had sparked widespread speculation regarding potential political realignments. Asked directly whether Sachan contemplated switching allegiance to the Samajwadi Party, Keshav Prasad Maurya deflected the query with a barbed counterpunch. Pointing fingers at the opposition chief, Maurya remarked that Akhilesh Yadav had himself approached him to switch over to the Bharatiya Janata Party. The Deputy Chief Minister, however, did not offer any specific context, operational details, or documentation regarding when such a conversation supposedly occurred, leading observers to view the statement as an intentional political jibe designed to neutralize gossip.
Sharpened Attack on the Opposition's PDA Slogan
Maurya also took aim at the opposition's signature political plank, the PDA outreach. Questioning the credibility of this campaign, the Deputy Chief Minister offered his own scathing acronym expansion, describing the initiative as nothing more than a Parivar Development Agency and Parivar Development Authority. He alleged that this organizational framing functions primarily as an umbrella to shield criminal syndicates, mafia networks, and rioters, arguing that the leadership prioritizes dynastic protection over public welfare.
Electoral Forecast for Upcoming Assembly Polls
Turning his attention to the electoral horizon, the Deputy Chief Minister expressed firm confidence regarding the 2027 assembly elections. He asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party would secure a sweeping majority to retain governance across Uttar Pradesh. Dismissing the opposition's prospects, Maurya remarked that returning to power in 2027 was entirely out of reach for the Samajwadi Party, adding that the party would struggle to regain office even by 2047, reiterating a long-term political prediction he has voiced previously.
Backing the Voter Roll Revision Drive
Addressing the contentious debate surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Maurya defended the administrative exercise. He emphasized that maintaining an accurate and cleansed voter registry is indispensable for conducting clean, unbiased elections. Giving full backing to the Election Commission's ongoing verification process, the Deputy Chief Minister maintained that administrative scrutiny is standard practice, dismissing opposition complaints as unfounded political maneuvering.
