The race to develop the leading artificial intelligence assistant continues to accelerate, with investors actively spreading their bets across emerging startups. In the latest development, personal AI agent platform Wabi announced on Thursday that it has successfully raised $55 million in fresh funding, bringing its total valuation to a remarkable $1.25 billion.
Founded by Eugenia Kuyda, who previously established the AI companion startup Replika, Wabi initially focused on enabling anyone to build custom applications using simple text prompts. However, just last month, the startup implemented a strategic shift to transform its platform into an AI-powered messaging experience.
The core concept behind this updated version, informally designated as Wabi 2.0, is to function as a personal AI agent capable of generating the exact digital interfaces users need to accomplish everyday tasks. The company indicates that the platform can be utilized to construct mini applications for a variety of purposes, including meal planning, tracking local dining spots, organizing date nights, creating fitness regimes, and designing specialized trivia games.
This substantial capital injection demonstrates that investors strongly believe in the potential of Wabi's pivot toward an agentic model. The market for AI agents is currently experiencing explosive growth, highlighted by viral AI agent Instinct securing a $1 billion investment at a $10 billion valuation in September. Additionally, Tolan, a startup offering an interactive AI companion designed to help users navigate daily life, recently pulled in $30 million.
Alex Lim, general partner at IVP, which led the new funding round, praised the company's leadership in an official statement noting that Eugenia has a unique sense for where artificial intelligence is heading and a proven track record of great taste in building it. He added that she holds a clear vision for how humans will interact with AI, extending far beyond traditional text boxes and command lines, and expressed excitement in supporting that vision.
Other prominent participants in this funding round included Andreessen Horowitz, Forerunner, the Amazon Alexa Fund, alongside high-profile angel investors. The individual backers feature Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, former Yahoo leader Marissa Mayer, former Twitter CEO Dick Costolo, and Alex Pall from the musical duo The Chainsmokers.
