A highly anticipated upgrade is on the way for devotees and travelers commuting between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Indian Railways has officially approved a proposal to run a new Vande Bharat Express train connecting Shivamogga Town and Tirupati. This semi-high-speed train is set to revolutionize travel between the two destinations, turning what was once a grueling journey into a swift and comfortable experience. South Western Railway (SWR) drafted the proposal, which has now received formal clearance, triggering immense excitement among regular passengers, particularly pilgrims heading to the holy town of Tirupati.
A Massive Reduction in Travel Time
Currently, commuting between Shivamogga and Tirupati is a tiresome and time-consuming task. Spanning a distance of approximately 545 kilometers, the route lacks a direct rail connection. As a consequence, travelers are forced to rely on long-distance interstate buses or private taxis, a journey that typically takes between 13 to 14 hours over bumpy roads. This exhaustive trip often leaves passengers physically drained by the time they reach their destination. However, the introduction of the Vande Bharat Express will completely transform this experience. The state-of-the-art train will cover the entire 545-kilometer distance in just about 9 to 10 hours, ensuring a direct time saving of 2 to 3 hours while offering top-notch luxury and modern amenities.
Complete Schedule and Timings of the Train
To cater to the convenience of tourists and pilgrims, Indian Railways has structured the schedule of this Vande Bharat Express very carefully, allowing passengers to optimize their day. The train will operate on the following timetable
- Departure from Shivamogga Town: The train will begin its journey from Shivamogga Town at 04:30 AM.
- Arrival at Tirupati: It is scheduled to complete its run and reach Tirupati by 02:15 PM.
- Departure from Tirupati: For the return direction, the train will depart from Tirupati at 02:45 PM.
- Arrival back at Shivamogga Town: The train will complete its return loop, arriving in Shivamogga Town at 11:55 PM.
This highly efficient timing lets passengers plan their transit with ease, ensuring they can arrive in Tirupati in the afternoon, leaving them with ample time for temple visits or other tasks.
Approved Route and Major Stations
This new rail link will play a crucial role in strengthening the cultural, religious, and economic ties between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. According to the officially approved route, the Vande Bharat Express will originate from Shivamogga Town. It will then pass through the major transit and technology hub of Bengaluru, proceed via Jolarpettai Junction, and finally terminate at Tirupati. By connecting these critical nodes, the train will benefit a diverse group of passengers, including daily commuters, corporate workers, students, and merchants traveling between these regions.
A Major Blessing for Tirumala Pilgrims
Every day, thousands of devotees from Shivamogga and neighboring districts embark on a pilgrimage to seek blessings from Lord Venkateswara at the world-famous Tirumala-Tirupati Temple. The absence of a direct train service was a long-standing grievance for these families. With the launch of this premium high-speed rail corridor, weekend getaways and family religious trips will become incredibly smooth and safe. The service will offer immense relief to senior citizens and children who find long hours of road travel highly uncomfortable.
