Meta's newly introduced standalone artificial intelligence application, Muse, is demonstrating rapid consumer adoption, outpacing the early mobile launch trajectory previously set by ChatGPT. Early performance metrics compiled by market intelligence specialist Apptopia show that mobile downloads for Muse during its opening 12 days on the market have eclipsed ChatGPT's equivalent launch phase across comparable regions.
Aligning Launch Metrics for a Fair Comparison
Evaluating the adoption rates between the two AI applications required filtering for differing launch strategies. When ChatGPT first debuted on mobile devices, it rolled out globally but remained restricted strictly to Apple's iOS ecosystem. In contrast, Meta deployed Muse across both Apple's App Store and Google Play simultaneously, though it initially restricted availability to users in the United States and Canada.
To create a precise baseline for comparison, data analysts isolated iOS performance in the United States and Canada during the initial 12-day window for each service. Within this matched segment, Muse achieved 1.8 million installs, compared to 1.3 million downloads recorded by ChatGPT during its respective launch period.
Global Traction and Climbing the App Charts
Across both platforms globally, Muse reached a total of 2.8 million downloads in its first 12 days. The momentum quickly carried the software to the top of digital storefronts. After entering the United States App Store at the No. 2 position overall, it rapidly ascended to the No. 1 spot, overtaking established competitors like ChatGPT. Earlier tracking by analytics firm Appfigures noted that the app had already crossed the 1 million download threshold during its initial upward surge.
Surging Daily Active User Engagement
Beyond initial installation numbers, engagement statistics show strong retention for Meta's AI tool. In the United States mobile market, Muse logged 642,000 daily active users over its first 12 days, noticeably higher than the 231,000 daily active users recorded for ChatGPT at the exact same juncture following its release.
Narrowing the examination strictly to iOS devices to offset the advantage of Android availability, Muse maintained a clear lead. On iOS alone in the United States, Muse recorded 359,000 daily active users, retaining an edge over ChatGPT's initial performance during its early days. While these metrics represent third-party market intelligence estimates rather than internal company disclosures, they reflect significant initial traction among daily consumers.
The Power of Social Network Cross-Promotion
A key catalyst behind this rapid expansion is Meta's established ability to cross-promote new tools across its wider digital empire. A similar playbook was deployed for Threads, which scaled past 500 million monthly active users through deep integration across Instagram and Facebook. Muse enjoys similar integration advantages, connecting directly with both social networks while also offering functionality inside WhatsApp.
Data tracking shows that more than 95 percent of Muse users maintain active Facebook accounts, while 63 percent use Instagram. While Meta has not published official telemetry or comment regarding early user acquisition figures, the heavy overlap underscores how effectively the company is funneling its established social audience into its dedicated AI experience.
