Amid growing security apprehensions following attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels, the Indian Embassy situated in Riyadh has gone on high alert. On Sunday, the diplomatic mission issued a specific advisory directed at Indian nationals residing in the region. The notice urges citizens to pay close attention to updated directives issued by Saudi authorities through the national emergency early warning platform and to adhere to them strictly.
Strict Instructions to Stay Indoors for Safety
Shared through social media platforms, these instructions advise people to remain calm, follow official guidance, and immediately seek the safest possible shelter inside a building. It has also been recommended that until the threat passes, individuals should stay inside an interior room away from windows in the event of an attack.
Prohibition on Open Spaces and Balconies
People have been advised not to step out of their homes or buildings until the danger has completely subsided. They are urged to steer clear of open areas, windows, and glass, and to avoid going onto balconies or rooftops. Those currently outdoors are instructed to head into the nearest building or seek cover behind a sturdy wall.
Avoiding Crowded Spots and Capturing Photos
The guidelines further instruct individuals to stay away from crowded and hazardous locations and to refrain from taking photographs. Drivers who receive a warning while on the road have been asked to pull over near the roadside, well away from bridges and tall buildings.
Emergency Helpline Numbers Established
The directives specify that in the event of any danger or emergency in Mecca, Medina, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province, individuals can dial the emergency number 911. Meanwhile, for residents located in the rest of Saudi Arabia, assistance can be reached by calling 998.
Heightened Vigilance Following Recent Attacks
These instructions come at a time when security worries have escalated significantly due to drone and missile attacks targeted at Saudi Arabia by Houthi rebels from Yemen. This includes the fatal incident that occurred on October 10 at the King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, which resulted in the death of one Indian national and left several others injured. Following this tragedy, the Indian Embassy has reiterated its safety guidance.
Warning Against Sharing Media on Social Platforms
This latest advisory follows an earlier appeal made to Indian citizens immediately after the October 10 attack, urging them to follow local authority instructions, stay indoors during air raids, and refrain from recording, publishing, or sharing information, photographs, or videos related to ongoing incidents.
