Administrative machinery in Assam has stepped up operational measures to guarantee transparent and orderly balloting for the upcoming parliamentary bypoll in the Nagaon constituency. Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel conducted an extensive evaluation of local arrangements during an official visit to Morigaon on Saturday, directing specific focus toward election logistics, statutory compliance, and strong room protection.
Review of Field Surveillance and Model Code Compliance
The high-level session took place inside the conference hall at the Morigaon District Commissioner’s Office. District Commissioner and District Election Officer Srishti Singh, alongside Senior Superintendent of Police Nishant Saurabh, participated in the deliberations. The state election chief examined the operational status of specialised election management cells and assessed the field deployment of Static Surveillance Teams and Flying Squad Teams monitoring the ground for violations of the Model Code of Conduct.
Administrative heads provided progress reports concerning preparatory measures across polling infrastructure. Goel scrutinised multiple operational facets to ensure that logistical mechanisms remain robust and completely ready well ahead of voting day, directing teams to maintain strict vigilance across sensitive locations.
On-Site Inspection at Morigaon College Counting Facility
Following the administrative meeting, Anurag Goel conducted an on-site inspection of designated post-poll facilities established at Morigaon College. Accompanied by Srishti Singh, the visiting delegation evaluated physical security arrangements planned for safeguarding voting machines and confidential materials, as well as the layout designed for efficient vote tallying operations.
Senior Superintendent of Police Nishant Saurabh, Jagiroad Co-District Commissioner Hriday Kumar Das, Additional District Commissioner Rakesh Deka, and Election Officer Gunjana Saikia accompanied the inspection team through the facility corridors to verify perimeter cordons and storage protocols.
Administrative Attendance and Official Election Schedule
The earlier planning discussions also included Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Satyajit Chetia, Laharighat Co-District Commissioner Anurag Phukan, Additional District Commissioners Uday Shankar Dutta and Nilakhi Baishya, as well as Assistant Commissioner Ankita Dutta. Based on the schedule notified by the Election Commission, voting across the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency will take place on October 6, followed by the counting of votes on October 9.
