Monsoon deluge continues to devastate parts of Assam, pushing the annual flood-related death toll to exactly 100 after two more fatalities were reported in the state. Local disaster management officials confirmed that two individuals drowned over the last 24 hours in Karbi Anglong and Golaghat districts, highlighting the persistent danger faced by residents in inundated areas across the region.
District-Wise Impact and Worst-Affected Regions
According to the official assessment from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), more than 137,500 residents across seven districts are currently dealing with submerged homes, displaced livestock, and heavily damaged agricultural farmland. Golaghat has emerged as the most severely hit hotspot, accounting for nearly 70,000 affected citizens. Sivasagar follows as the second most impacted region with around 40,000 affected residents, while Jorhat has registered over 16,000 affected individuals. The administrative districts of Charaideo, Darrang, Karbi Anglong, and Nagaon also remain under active monitoring due to widespread waterlogging.
Relief Operations and Shelter Infrastructure
Although flood conditions have shown a minor improvement compared to Saturday when nearly 1.5 lakh people were impacted across eight districts, human displacement remains high. In response, local authorities have operationalized 125 relief camps and dedicated distribution hubs spanning six districts. At present, 49,061 citizens are taking shelter in these official centers, where emergency food, medical supplies, and temporary housing support are being provided.
