A pall of gloom descended on the Assam Agriculture Department campus at Khanapara in Guwahati on Thursday following the recovery of an employee's body inside the administrative building. The deceased has been identified as 55-year-old Ranjay Baruah, who served as a senior assistant within the department's office establishment.
Missing Since Wednesday Evening
According to information shared by his family members, Baruah had been unaccounted for since Wednesday evening. Having visited home earlier in the day for lunch, he initially left the office to return home around 5 pm. However, he subsequently made his way back to the department's campus. Crucially, his mobile phone had remained behind at his residence, cutting off direct communication and sparking immediate worry among his relatives.
Stayed on Campus With His Son
Ranjay Baruah resided alongside his son within the residential quarters of the Agriculture Department's Khanapara campus. Recalling the sequence of events, his son noted that his father was present at home on Wednesday and departed after having lunch. Describing him as a quiet and reserved individual who generally kept to himself and maintained minimal interaction with others, the son explained that family members and acquaintances initiated a frantic search when he failed to return.
Body Discovered Hanging Amid Bloodstains
The search ended tragically on Thursday when Baruah's body was located inside the department's administrative building on the Khanapara premises. Police personnel confirmed that he was found hanging within the structure. Adding a critical dimension to the inquiry, investigating officers detected bloodstains scattered around the immediate vicinity of the recovery spot, heightening scrutiny over how the tragedy unfolded.
