A midnight blaze involving a police personnel's personal vehicle has sparked fresh security concerns along the sensitive Assam-Meghalaya inter-state border. The incident occurred late Tuesday night at the Lampi Border Outpost, where a Maruti Alto was completely destroyed by fire outside the security camp premises, prompting local authorities to launch a comprehensive investigation into potential arson.

The destroyed vehicle belonged to Havildar Arbinda Roy, who is currently posted with the 28th Battalion. According to police details, the car was left parked along the approach road outside the Lampi Border Outpost complex under the Upper Lampi Battalion. The poor condition of the access road had made it impossible for personnel to maneuver the vehicle inside the secured compound premises.
Investigators suspect that the vehicle might have been targeted and set on fire deliberately by unknown miscreants. However, official sources note that the exact cause of the inferno remains under technical verification, and authorities are keeping all possibilities open while the probe proceeds.
Forensic Investigation and Senior Police Review
Following the incident, a formal First Information Report (FIR) was promptly registered at the Lampi Border Police Outpost. To determine whether the blaze was an accident or a deliberate act of sabotage, a specialized forensic science team from Guwahati was dispatched directly to the site. Forensic experts are conducting a thorough site examination, inspecting the charred remains of the vehicle, and collecting chemical samples to pinpoint the precise origin and cause of the fire.
