To facilitate smooth travel for thousands of attendees expected at the upcoming memorial event of late singer Zubeen Garg, driver organizations in Assam have stepped forward with a special transport initiative. On September 19, visitors traveling to Zubeen Kshetra in Sonapur will have access to designated cab services operating at minimal fares.
Affordable Transport for Commemorating the Late Singer
The initiative, organized by the Assam State Drivers’ Union in collaboration with members of the Assam Commercial Drivers’ Association and registered cab drivers, aims to support mourners heading to the memorial venue. Union representatives stated that this effort serves as a tribute to the revered musician while ensuring that fans and well wishers face no transportation hurdles or exorbitant travel costs. Given the massive turnout anticipated at Sonapur, the reduced fare cab arrangements are designed to manage passenger movement effectively and ease traffic strain around Zubeen Kshetra. The driver bodies have publicly encouraged attendees to utilize these dedicated transport services on the day of the event.
Three Day Commemorative Programme Details
Preparations are currently in full swing for observing the first death anniversary of Zubeen Garg, with people from across various regions of Assam planning to converge at the site. The remembrance functions are scheduled across a three day timeline starting on September 17. Outline details shared by the late singer's wife, Garima Saikia Garg, reveal that the opening day on September 17 will be celebrated as 'Zubeen Divas'. On this day, proceedings will continue until approximately 5:00 pm to 5:30 pm, giving visitors complete freedom to pay their respects through personal prayers, musical renditions, songs, or written tributes.
Religious Rituals and Cultural Performances
The commemorative events will conclude on September 19 with a full schedule of spiritual and traditional activities. Devotional programs including Bhagawat Naam and associated rituals are set to take place throughout the day at Zubeen Kshetra. Later in the evening, a traditional Bhaona theatrical performance will commence around 6:30 pm and wrap up by nearly 9:30 pm, marking a solemn and culturally rich homage to the legendary cultural figure.
