Assam is gearing up to host the renowned English virtual band Gorillaz, with the celebrated musical group scheduled to perform live in Guwahati on January 31, 2027. This major event marks a key stop on the band's very first tour of India, an announcement that was officially shared by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday.
Full Schedule of the India Tour
The group's upcoming national tour will feature performances across multiple major Indian cities before culminating in the northeast. Prior to the Guwahati finale, the band is slated to take the stage in Bengaluru on January 23. Following that performance, the members will travel to Mumbai for a show on January 27, before heading to Assam four days later to wrap up the landmark visit.

Sharing the news of the upcoming Guwahati show through a social media post, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed immense pride in the city being selected among the host destinations for this historic tour. He also conveyed optimism that enthusiastic music lovers and fans from all corners of the country would make the journey to Assam to witness the performance.
Origins and Fictional Persona
Established back in 1998, Gorillaz was created through the collaborative efforts of musician Damon Albarn and visual artist Jamie Hewlett. The group remains widely recognized for its pioneering virtual-band concept, wherein the musical output and public representation are embodied through four distinct fictional characters named 2-D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle, and Russel Hobbs.
Growing Hub for International Music Events
The addition of Gorillaz to the local calendar further expands Guwahati's rapidly growing reputation as a destination for major international music acts. American rapper Post Malone held a concert in the city in December of last year, while the legendary American hard rock band Guns N' Roses is scheduled to perform in Guwahati on November 17.
State Push for Concert Tourism
The government of Assam has actively pursued strategies to position the state as a prime location for music-driven tourism. In May 2025, authorities approved a specific policy designed to promote concert tourism, officially designating Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Jorhat as primary hubs for hosting large-scale entertainment events.
As part of these ongoing promotional efforts, the state administration also established a partnership with Bigtree Entertainment, the company responsible for operating the ticketing platform BookMyShow, to streamline the organization and ticketing of concerts throughout Assam.
