A special conservation initiative was organised on Tuesday at the Ultapani Forest Range inside Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park in Kokrajhar district, marking the annual observance of World Rhino Day. Forest authorities, non-governmental conservation groups, and community representatives gathered to establish a more integrated front for wildlife safeguarding across the landscape. The discussions concentrated heavily on reinforcing field operations and improving operational synergy among all ground-level stakeholders.
Reviewing Protection Frameworks and Field Logistics
Key participants at the gathering included Haltugaon Forest Division DFO P.K. Bhuyan, Aaranyak secretary general and executive director Dr Bibhab Kumar Talukdar, Ultapani range officer Mintu Boro, and Evergreen Charitable Trust president Rajib Narzary, who joined the frontline personnel. Deliberations focused on evaluating existing protective safeguards within Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park. Attendees stressed the critical requirement for recurring technical training, upgraded logistical setups, and seamless operational alignment connecting grassroots villagers with forest teams and external conservation groups.
Equipping Frontline Guards for Tough Terrain
To bolster daily surveillance capabilities across challenging terrain, Aaranyak handed over essential field gear to personnel stationed in the Ultapani Range. The distribution package comprised robust patrol footwear, weather-resistant rain suits, and high-capacity rechargeable ranger searchlights. These supplies aim to upgrade staff comfort, physical safety, and nocturnal readiness when monitoring dense animal habitats and curbing unauthorised intrusions under harsh weather conditions.
Collaborative Monitoring and Forest Management
Speakers also underscored the long-term value of aggregating technical expertise, field experience, and material resources from varied institutions to protect regional biodiversity. Strengthening grassroots intelligence alongside systematic patrolling is seen as vital for the reserve's future security. The event was managed by an Aaranyak team consisting of Binita Baruwati, Wasima Begum, Bijeet Baro, Mizing Boro, and Dhananjoy Mashahary, who facilitated joint participation across official and community networks.
