Flood conditions across Assam registered a slight improvement on Sunday, though nearly 1.35 lakh people continue to endure severe disruptions across five districts. According to an official bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the death toll due to floods this year has climbed to 85 following three additional fatalities reported from Sivasagar district.
Worst-Hit Districts and Casualty Figures
Data provided by ASDMA shows that over 1,36,200 residents are currently impacted across five districts: Charaideo, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Jorhat, and Sivasagar. This reflects a marginal drop from Saturday when approximately 1.8 lakh individuals were affected in these same areas. Sivasagar remains the most severely affected district, with more than 55,000 residents suffering from inundation, followed by Charaideo with 40,000 people and Jorhat with 22,000 affected residents.
Submerged Villages, Farmland Damage, and Relief Operations
The floodwaters have inundated a total of 335 villages across the region, causing extensive damage to agricultural infrastructure. Official statistics indicate that 15,422 hectares of cropland have been submerged, inflicting massive crop loss on local farmers. To aid displaced families, district administrations are operating 54 relief camps and distribution centers across the five affected districts, housing and supporting 13,771 individuals. Meanwhile, hydrological monitoring shows that the Dhansiri River continues to flow above the danger mark at Numaligarh.
