Youth from Assam looking to build professional careers abroad are set to receive structured backing through a dedicated international training facility in the state. An agreement between the Assam state administration and the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship paves the way for establishing a Skill India International Centre. The initiative focuses on delivering market-driven vocational training designed to meet rigorous standards demanded by foreign employers.
Formal Agreement Signed at Guwahati Conclave
The strategic partnership was finalised during the Northeast Tourism & Hospitality Skill Conclave 2026, hosted by the Union skill ministry at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati. Key industry leaders, educators, and government delegates attended the conference, focusing primarily on unlocking foreign employment opportunities for Northeast talent within the service, travel, and hospitality sectors.
Global Certifications and Tailored Training Modules
The incoming international facility will operate under a modernized framework, offering courses directly aligned with modern industrial practices. Enrolled students will receive internationally accepted credentials, ensuring foreign recruiters recognize their qualifications. Beyond technical instruction, the centre will build structured migration corridors to connect certified candidates directly with overseas firms.
Public Sector Giants Join Hands Under PM-SETU
To further reinforce regional vocational infrastructure, officials introduced a specialised cluster under the PM-SETU framework during the event. This multi-party collaboration unites the Union ministry and the Assam government with the National Skill Development Corporation, Oil India Limited, and Numaligarh Refinery Limited. By incorporating energy sector leaders, the cluster aims to bring direct industrial exposure into classroom learning.
Ministers Highlight Regional Talent and Global Market Demands
Speaking at the event, Assam Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship Minister Biswajit Daimary observed that young professionals must acquire market-relevant competencies to capitalise on expanding foreign markets. He pointed to the immense regional potential in hospitality and called for deep coordination among educational institutions and corporate employers. Concurrently, Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary stressed the importance of fortifying the regional skill ecosystem to unlock sustainable foreign job avenues for local job seekers.
Focus Session on Global Mobility in Hospitality
The summit also featured a focused technical workshop addressing overseas workforce mobility within tourism and hospitality. Industry specialists and policymakers discussed international competency frameworks, evolving employer expectations across foreign markets, and step-by-step pathways to facilitate transparent cross-border hiring for skilled candidates.
