Members and supporters of the ruling party in Assam took to the streets of Morigaon district on Sunday to conduct a major gathering under the banner of 'Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy'. The political event was organised as a direct counter-offensive against the massive demonstration held in New Delhi by Congress-led opposition groups regarding alleged irregularities in recent elections.
Top leaders gather in Morigaon for political demonstration
The event saw the participation of high-ranking regional figures, including Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia and state minister Pijush Hazarika. They were accompanied by Morigaon MLA Rama Kanta Dewri, Nagaon Lok Sabha MP Devasish Sharma, and district party chief Ram Prasad Sarkar, alongside multiple local functionaries and regional representatives. Party organisers characterised the massive gathering as an open demonstration of widespread grassroots backing for their governance and ideological stance.
Party leadership issues warning against political instability
Addressing the assembled crowd, Dilip Saikia stated that the substantial attendance delivered an unmistakable political signal to the Congress party and its broader alliance. He warned that any strategy aimed at weakening the nation's democratic foundation or triggering administrative instability would meet strong resistance. Throughout the addresses, speakers placed heavy emphasis on preserving constitutional norms, maintaining political stability, and promoting public participation, contrasting this with the opposition's adversarial tactics.
Chief Minister highlights public sentiment amid national standoff
Following the Morigaon gathering, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared his thoughts on social media, asserting,
“The anarchists may create chaos, but nationalists give them back in equal measure kyuki hum Vote Chori nahi, Dil Chori karte hai!”
Sarma stated that the local population in Morigaon voiced clear disapproval of attempts by the INDIA bloc to disrupt normal life in the national capital, while reaffirming their backing for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This confrontation serves as a counterweight to the opposition's 'Chalo Dilli' agitation, in which various parties demonstrated in the capital against purported voting discrepancies and called for the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
