Marking forty-eight years of dedicated community service, the Rotary Club of Guwahati West organized a commemorative gathering featuring a series of civic and cultural programmes. The foundation day ceremony in the city brought together community leaders, educators, and distinguished citizens. Guwahati Central MLA Vijay Kumar Gupta attended the celebration as the chief guest, while Ganesh Tamuli joined the dignitaries on stage as the guest of honour.
Reflecting on Community Initiatives and Club Milestones
Welcoming the assembled guests, club president Pawan Kumar Goel highlighted the organization's ongoing welfare drives, public welfare initiatives, and diverse community service projects. In keeping with local heritage, former presidents of the Rotary Club of Guwahati West were felicitated with traditional Assamese scarves, known as phulam gamochas, acknowledging their past leadership and lasting contributions to the club's growth.
Recognizing Academic Excellence and Sporting Talent
Education formed a key focus of the felicitation segment, with the club conferring honours upon three teachers from different schools across the city in recognition of their steadfast dedication to teaching. The event also celebrated high achievers from other disciplines, honouring Peace Scholar Rozy Rani Sarmah alongside renowned chess Grandmaster Mayank Chakraborty for their exemplary accomplishments. Within the organization, Rotarian Amal Das received the Lifetime Achievement Award for sustained contributions to the club, while Krishna Barua was presented with the Silver Jubilee Award.
Calls for Public Health Awareness and Inclusive Support
Addressing the audience, guest of honour Ganesh Tamuli highlighted the urgent need to promote healthy lifestyle choices and foster comprehensive health awareness among the general public. Chief guest Vijay Kumar Gupta subsequently took the podium to call on citizens from every walk of life to collaborate closely. He stressed the importance of standing in solidarity with marginalized sections, urging collective action to uplift underprivileged and vulnerable groups.
