Himanta Biswa Sarma Unveils Development Works Worth Rs 122 Crore To Modernize Upper Assam

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched multiple infrastructure initiatives valued at Rs 122.20 crore in Jorhat and Sivasagar, kicking off a three-day development tour.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commenced his three-day tour of Upper Assam with the inauguration of multiple key infrastructure developments. These public welfare projects, collectively valued at Rs 122.20 crore, are distributed across the Jorhat and Sivasagar districts. The initiative aims to significantly upgrade civic amenities, streamline administrative workflows, and ease traffic woes in the region.

New Administrative Hub in Jorhat

Among the major highlights of the developmental push is the newly constructed Integrated District Commissioner’s Office located at Cinnamara in Jorhat. This administrative complex has been built with an expenditure of Rs 49.22 crore. Designed to serve as a single-window destination for various public services, the complex will consolidate multiple crucial administrative divisions under one roof. It is set to house the offices of the Deputy Commissioner, the treasury, the sub-registrar, the election department, and the food and civil supplies wing.

To support high-level administrative tasks and community gatherings, the building is equipped with modern facilities. These include an auditorium with a seating capacity of 150 people, a conference hall designed for 60 participants, and dedicated infrastructure for National Informatics Centre facilities. Emphasizing clean energy, the premises feature dedicated space for a 50 KW solar power installation. Additionally, the complex offers ample parking space, accommodating 25 four-wheelers and 150 two-wheelers to prevent congestion around the administrative hub.

Alleviating Traffic Bottlenecks at Cinnamara

In another major step to improve local transport and connectivity, a new railway overbridge at Cinnamara has been opened to the public. Constructed on the busy Jorhat-Mariani-Mokokchung Road, the overbridge represents a capital investment of approximately Rs 65 crore. The structural design of this overbridge spans a total length of 545 metres and includes a 1.5-meter-wide footpath on the side to ensure pedestrian safety.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister pointed out that the newly completed overbridge would provide immense relief to commuters. For years, the Cinnamara railway crossing had been a notorious bottleneck, causing persistent traffic delays. Sarma emphasized that this project aligns with the state government's larger vision. The administration plans to systematically eliminate traffic disruptions caused by railway gates across Assam, turning uninterrupted vehicular movement into a daily reality for the public.

Focus on Educational Infrastructure and Future Projects

The development package also focused heavily on the region's academic sector. During the event, the Chief Minister virtually inaugurated the newly built structure of the Luitporiya Mising Higher Secondary School in Jorhat. Simultaneously, he unveiled a new girls' hostel facility at Sivasagar University to improve living conditions for female students pursuing higher education. Commenting on these initiatives, Sarma stated that these four integrated projects are vital steps toward strengthening the public and academic infrastructure of both districts.

Looking ahead, the Chief Minister shared plans for further beautification and urban development in Jorhat. Acting on a proposal put forward by Jorhat MLA Hiten Goswami, the state plans to transform the banks of the Bhogdoi river into a modern riverfront park. Furthermore, Sarma announced that a state-of-the-art auditorium currently under construction in Jorhat is progressing rapidly and is expected to reach completion within the next two to three months.
