Law enforcement agencies in Meghalaya and Assam have stepped in to address the ongoing transport standstill along their shared border by establishing a dedicated cross-border coordination framework. The initiative is designed to guarantee the safety of commuters and commercial vehicles navigating through the disputed and restricted corridors connecting the two states, preventing delays and managing stranded traffic efficiently.
Nodal Officers Appointed for Inter-State Coordination
According to an official directive issued by the Additional Director General of Police for the Special Branch in Meghalaya, DySP (Security) B. Nongsiej has been officially designated as the primary nodal officer. His core responsibility involves liaising directly with district administrators across Meghalaya and their official counterparts within Assam. On the Assam side, Rajendra Ojah, APS, SP (Zonal), has been assigned as the corresponding nodal contact, ensuring seamless communication between the two state police forces.
The operational protocol requires field units to log and report details regarding any vehicles stranded on either side of the boundary directly to the Meghalaya Special Branch Control Room. This information is subsequently relayed to the respective district Superintendent of Police or local control rooms to dispatch timely assistance, which includes arranging dedicated police escorts for travelers moving across the state lines.
Helpline Numbers and Emergency Contacts
To streamline communication, authorities have released specific telephone numbers for stranded motorists and officials. Rajendra Ojah can be reached at 9707081768, while B. Nongsiej is available at 9863060830. Additionally, dedicated control room lines have been activated, with the Meghalaya Control Room reachable at 9774618462 and the Assam Special Branch Control Room at 9181014888.
District superintendents throughout Meghalaya have received strict instructions to maintain constant communication with Assam Police personnel whenever security escorts are requested for convoys traversing towards or originating from Assam. This collaborative arrangement, authorized by the Inspector General of Police (Special Branch) in Shillong, came into immediate effect and will remain operational until further administrative notices are issued.
