Assam has undertaken a massive operation to dispose of illicit narcotics valued at approximately Rs 300 crore as the current Bharatiya Janata Party-led state government reaches the milestone of its first 100 days in office. State Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted this major enforcement benchmark on Friday, emphasizing that law enforcement authorities across the region are maintaining an unyielding stance against organized drug trafficking rings.
Dedicated Incineration and Multi-Front Operations in Nalbari
The destruction of the massive stash of illegal contraband was executed using the newly established dedicated narcotics incinerator facility located in Nalbari district, which serves as Assam's first specialized infrastructure designed specifically for safe drug disposal. Officials confirmed that the ongoing anti-narcotics campaign relies on a comprehensive strategy combining high-volume seizures, targeted arrests, and systematic dismantling of illicit distribution networks operating within and across state borders.
Clear Message to Illegal Trafficking Networks
Addressing the public and law enforcement priorities via a post on social media platform X, Sarma noted that the administration completed 100 percent action within its initial 100 days. Reinforcing the commitment of state security personnel, the Chief Minister reiterated that enforcement agencies are determined to eliminate safe havens for criminals involved in the drug trade. He issued a stern warning stating that there is no place to hide and that authorities will apprehend those engaged in contraband operations.
Parallel Crackdown on Illegal Cattle Transportation in Changsari
Alongside the narcotics disposal drive, state authorities have simultaneously intensified operations aimed at curbing illegal cattle smuggling. During a recent targeted police operation in Changsari, Assam Police successfully intercepted multiple vehicles and rescued 55 cattle being transported in cruel conditions. Officers confiscated three vehicles along with three mobile phones used in the operation and arrested four individuals connected to the illegal transport.
Law and Order Priorities for State Administration
Sarma affirmed that state agencies will maintain active surveillance and conduct rigorous enforcement until cattle smuggling is completely eradicated across Assam. The twin enforcement actions reflect the broader administrative priorities of the state government, which has placed anti-narcotics campaigns and the prevention of illegal livestock trafficking at the center of its key law and order agenda.
