The Samrang Land Customs Station located in Assam's Udalguri district became operational on Monday. This development marks a significant step toward improving cross-border trade and connectivity between India and Bhutan, according to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Expanding Trade Infrastructure
In a public statement shared online, Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted that the newly functional customs station will upgrade trade infrastructure along the international border. The facility is designed to streamline the movement of goods and further consolidate economic ties between Assam and Bhutan.
Authorized Transit Routes
The Samrang facility received notification earlier this month, designating it as an additional entry and exit point for Bhutanese bilateral and third-country commerce. The authorized transit route connects Samrang in Assam to Samrang in Bhutan via the Rangia-Tamulpur-Dimakuchi motorable road network.

Assam continues to solidify its position as a vital gateway for India's diplomatic and commercial engagement with neighboring countries. Upgraded transportation, customs frameworks, and logistics are expected to catalyze regional commerce, drive local economic growth, and support the broader development objectives across the Northeast.
