Mahindra and Mahindra witnessed an eventful performance across its passenger vehicle portfolio during September 2026, showcasing stark contrasts between traditional internal combustion models and modern battery electric offerings. The market numbers highlighted enduring loyalty toward the brand's rugged workhorses in non-metro heartlands alongside steady traction for newly updated urban crossovers. While the flagship body-on-frame Scorpio held its crown as the volume driver despite a slight annual contraction, the utility-focused Bolero emerged as the biggest gainer of the month, reversing broader industry trends with three-digit growth.
Scorpio Continues at the Top of the Order
The iconic Scorpio nameplate maintained its standing as the primary volume generator for the manufacturer, registering a total tally of 17,313 dispatches during September 2026. While this reflects a 6 percent dip when compared to the 18,372 units sold in the corresponding month of the prior year, it comfortably outpaced every other vehicle in the line-up. Positioned in the ex-showroom price bracket of ₹13.43 lakh to ₹17.48 lakh, the SUV relies on a sturdy body-on-frame platform designed to withstand harsh operating conditions. Power comes from a 2.2-litre diesel engine that outputs 130 bhp through a manual transmission setup, complemented by practical additions like a sunroof, six airbags, and a 360-degree parking camera.
Rural Demand Powers 253 Percent Growth for Bolero
Delivering the most dramatic turnaround of the month, the Bolero range posted a massive 253 percent year-on-year sales expansion to touch 9,710 units. Retailing between ₹8.49 lakh and ₹9.99 lakh, the seven-seater utility vehicle remains an essential choice across rural and semi-urban transportation routes due to its mechanical simplicity and modest upkeep expenses. It draws propulsion from a proven 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 75 bhp and 210 Nm of torque paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, riding on a heavy-duty chassis built for unpaved terrain.
XUV 3XO Maintains Double-Digit Momentum
The sub-compact XUV 3XO established itself as another major success story, concluding the month with 10,823 units sold, which represents a 20 percent increase over the previous year. Priced from ₹7.79 lakh up to ₹15.04 lakh, the vehicle caters to modern urban commuters by offering multiple powertrain options, including a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol, a 1.5-litre diesel, and factory-fitted CNG. Its popularity among younger buyers is anchored by a 5-star crash safety certification, Level-2 ADAS driver assistance suite, a 10.25-inch infotainment display, and a panoramic sunroof.
Mixed Fortunes for XUV 7XO and Thar Series
In the mid-size and lifestyle spaces, customer reception showed signs of cooling down. The XUV 7XO, serving as the refreshed version of the XUV700, recorded 9,097 sales units, marking a 7 percent year-on-year contraction. Priced between ₹13.66 lakh and ₹24.92 lakh, it offers strong mechanical configurations via a 203 hp 2.0-litre petrol motor and a 185 hp 2.2-litre diesel unit, packaged alongside triple 12.3-inch dashboard screens and a 540-degree camera. Meanwhile, the Thar series including Thar Roxx accounted for 9,008 deliveries, slipping 24 percent compared to last year. Built on the newer M_Glyde platform, this three-door off-roader costs between ₹10.32 lakh and ₹18.99 lakh and features revised suspension geometry and electric power steering.
Electric Lineup Experiences Divergent Paths
The performance of Mahindra's dedicated electric vehicle division presented a tale of new entries gaining ground while legacy platforms lost relevance. The three-row XEV 9S completed its maiden volume tally at 4,636 units. Positioned from ₹19.95 lakh to ₹29.45 lakh, the seven-seat EV incorporates battery options spanning 59, 70, and 79 kWh, unlocking driving ranges between 521 and 679 kilometres along with a triple-screen cabin layout. Conversely, the XEV 9e coupe-SUV declined 25 percent to 1,975 units in the ₹21.90 lakh to ₹31.25 lakh range, while the BE 6 coupe recorded 1,517 units, sliding 11 percent. The pioneer XUV400 bore the brunt of competition, crashing 91 percent to just 13 units, despite offering a 150 hp motor and driving ranges up to 456 kilometres across its ₹15.49 lakh to ₹17.69 lakh price window.
