Customer transition toward battery-powered passenger mobility in India reached another milestone during October 2026, driven by festival purchases, an expanding public charging footprint, and growing consumer preference for greener transport. Showrooms across the country witnessed heightened traction as both established domestic manufacturers and emerging international brands competed for consumer attention in the passenger electric vehicle segment.
Domestic Automakers Dominate the Top Two Positions
Local manufacturers continued to command the bulk of retail volumes during October 2026. Tata Motors retained its undisputed market leadership by delivering 14,552 units across the country. A widespread portfolio spanning multiple pricing brackets, combined with a dependable after-sales service network, ensured that the brand remained the default choice for mainstream electric car buyers.
Mahindra secured the second position on the tally after retailing 8,472 units during the month. Strong consumer reception for its electric SUV lineup, characterized by contemporary exterior styling and loaded equipment packages, helped solidify the brand's standing as a formidable player in the growing market.
Global Contenders Battle for Mid-Table Honors
MG Motor captured the third spot after recording 5,877 unit sales over the monthly cycle. The automaker's balance of tech-laden cabins, upscale interiors, and aggressive price positioning continued to appeal strongly to metropolitan vehicle owners looking for accessible electric transport.
Vietnamese newcomer VinFast registered an impactful presence in the Indian marketplace, capturing fourth place with 2,565 units delivered during October 2026. Contemporary design language, advanced battery architecture, and competitive introductory pricing helped the Vietnamese brand attract initial consumer interest. Meanwhile, Kia completed the top five with 1,386 units sold, drawing buyers seeking high-tech cockpits, futuristic styling cues, and extended driving range.
Performance Across the Lower Half of the Top Ten
The remaining positions among the top ten manufacturers showed varied traction for legacy global conglomerates. Maruti Suzuki accounted for 1,188 units in October 2026, followed closely by Hyundai with 753 units. Chinese electric vehicle specialist BYD registered 735 unit sales. Further down the list, Toyota logged 189 units, while Stellantis closed out the rankings with 60 units. The monthly figures highlight that early movers in the electric passenger segment continue to hold a substantial volume advantage over traditional rivals.
