Major automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India has announced a price hike of up to Rs 20,000 across select models in its vehicle lineup. Revealed on Monday, the updated pricing structure comes into effect immediately within the current month. The company has attributed this decision to sustained financial pressures and rising production costs that have impacted manufacturing operations across the board.
Third consecutive price hike since May
This latest announcement marks the third time Maruti Suzuki has raised vehicle prices since May. While previous adjustments applied universally across all models, the current revision specifically targets select vehicles with increases reaching up to Rs 20,000. Industry analysts note that ongoing macroeconomic pressures and persistent cost inflation have forced automakers to repeatedly adjust retail prices to protect their profit margins.
Raw material costs cited as primary driver
In a formal regulatory filing submitted to stock exchanges, Maruti Suzuki India explained that continuous increases in raw material expenses compelled the decision. The revised prices become effective starting September 2026. The organization noted that over the past several months, it exhausted various internal cost-reduction initiatives to absorb the financial burden before passing on any adjustments.
Balancing market pressures and customer impact
The company acknowledged that inflationary pressures remain at elevated levels and the broader cost environment continues to be challenging. Consequently, management stated it was compelled to transfer a portion of the increased expenses to the market. However, the manufacturer emphasized that dedicated efforts continue to ensure the final burden on retail consumers is kept to an absolute minimum.
New Baleno launched with premium styling
Amidst these pricing updates, Maruti Suzuki recently launched an updated version of its popular premium hatchback, the Baleno. The redesigned hatchback features fresh styling, advanced Level 2 ADAS powered by a combination of radar and cameras, premium leatherette upholstery, and ventilated front seats. Bookings for the new Baleno are open with a token amount of Rs 11,000, while the starting ex-showroom price begins at Rs 6,09,900.
Comprehensive safety equipment included
The new Baleno comes equipped with standard NEXA safety shield features designed to enhance passenger protection. Key safety systems include six airbags, electronic stability program, anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution, emergency stop signal, hill hold control, reverse parking sensors, three-point seat belts, seat belt reminders, and a tire pressure monitoring system. These additions aim to provide enhanced safety and complete peace of mind for buyers.
