The Indian two-wheeler market witnessed an exceptionally vibrant performance throughout August 2026. Six prominent domestic manufacturers, namely Hero MotoCorp, Honda, TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, Suzuki, and Royal Enfield, collectively registered a total of 24,40,653 units sold across domestic retail and international export channels. This impressive figure represents a strong 12.96 percent increase compared to the 21,60,690 units recorded in August 2025. Notably, TVS Motor retained the number-one position in terms of overall sales volume for the second month in a row.
Domestic Dominance And Export Dynamics
Within the domestic retail space, Hero MotoCorp successfully preserved its leadership position. However, in the export arena, Bajaj Auto captured the top spot by a substantial margin, cementing its international reach. Meanwhile, Honda narrowed the gap significantly in domestic sales, coming extremely close to Hero. The performance charts highlight a buoyant consumer market with robust demand across various engine capacities and vehicle categories.
Hero MotoCorp Performance Overview
Hero MotoCorp remained the largest individual manufacturer in the domestic two-wheeler market. The company retailed 5,42,305 units within India during August 2026, marking a 4.46 percent year-on-year growth. Conversely, the company faced softer demand in the export segment, shipping just 26,093 units overseas, which translates to a 24.56 percent decline. Combining domestic deliveries and international shipments, the company attained a cumulative total of 5,68,398 units, representing a modest 2.65 percent annual rise.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India
Honda posed a fierce challenge to Hero in the domestic market during August. The company distributed 5,17,329 two-wheelers locally, reflecting a 7.55 percent improvement over the previous year. The domestic sales gap between the two leading rivals narrowed down to just 24,976 units. Honda also performed well globally, dispatching 61,833 units abroad with a 14.85 percent expansion. Factoring in both divisions, Honda reached a total sales volume of 5,79,162 units, moving up by 8.28 percent.
TVS Motor Claims The Overall Lead
TVS Motor once again clinched the top spot overall for August 2026 by leveraging strong consumer demand. The company registered 4,33,796 domestic sales, marking a robust 17.60 percent annual growth rate. TVS also secured second place in the export category by shipping 1,57,641 units internationally, achieving a 29.29 percent surge. Combining domestic and overseas figures, TVS retailed a grand total of 5,91,437 units, which is a 20.51 percent jump compared to the corresponding period last year.
Bajaj Auto Leads In Global Shipments
Bajaj Auto reinforced its stronghold in the international export market. The company delivered 2,41,850 two-wheelers overseas during August, registering a massive 53.28 percent annual growth. On the home front, Bajaj recorded domestic sales of 2,01,898 units, showing a 9.66 percent upward movement. Total sales combining domestic and export channels reached 4,43,748 units. Bajaj witnessed an overall sales growth of 29.79 percent, placing it among the fastest-growing major manufacturers.
Suzuki Growth And Royal Enfield Premium Strength
Suzuki also posted positive domestic growth during August 2026. The company distributed 1,13,936 two-wheelers within India, up by 10.49 percent year-on-year. However, export operations faced headwinds, with international shipments dropping 21.58 percent to 17,493 units. Total sales across both sectors stood at 1,31,429 units, cushioned by strong domestic retail demand. Meanwhile, Royal Enfield demonstrated steady performance across both markets, pushing domestic sales up by 11.01 percent to 114,204 units. With a 10.33 percent increase in exports, the company shipped 12,275 motorcycles abroad, bringing its total volume to 126,479 units and highlighting its continuing dominance in the premium motorcycle segment.
