Renault India has formally introduced the efficiency credentials for the next iteration of its flagship Duster nameplate, signaling a bold return to the competitive compact SUV arena. Under official ARAI testing protocols, the upcoming Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 registered a fuel economy figure of 29 km per litre, establishing an impressive benchmark within the category. Representing a pivotal milestone in the French manufacturer's forward-looking product roadmap for the country, this vehicle marks the brand's premiere strong hybrid offering in India. The self-charging architecture combines a petrol combustion motor with dedicated electric drive units without requiring any plug-in electric infrastructure.
Surpassing Key Competitors in Certified Fuel Economy
The certified 29 kmpl efficiency level places the new Duster ahead of established strong hybrid rivals currently dominating the Indian automotive market. For comparison, the hybrid variants of the Maruti Grand Vitara and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder deliver a certified fuel return of 27.97 kmpl. By edging past these figures, the Duster positions itself as an enticing alternative for long-distance commuters and urban families prioritizing low operational expenses. Renault officially commenced order reservations on October 9, 2026, setting the booking token at Rs 21,000 through authorized dealerships as well as its digital sales portal. The complete product showcase alongside the variant-wise pricing announcement will take place on October 17, 2026.
Rugged Styling Package and Elevated Road Clearance
While the previous generations of the Duster earned widespread loyalty through a no-nonsense, utilitarian stance, this modernized generation integrates sharp contemporary styling without sacrificing trail readiness. The exterior is framed by full LED headlamps and taillamps, squared-off wheel arches, sculpted shoulder lines, and 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. To manage uneven road surfaces and minor trail hazards, the vehicle offers an ample ground clearance measuring 212 mm. At the back, an integrated horizontal light bar runs across the sculpted tailgate, giving the SUV an upscale and broad visual footprint.
Cockpit Appointments, Google Integration, and Cabin Comforts
The interior architecture adopts a driver-focused orientation inspired by aviation aesthetics. The dashboard is anchored by a 10.1-inch OpenR Link central touchscreen operating with integrated Google services, alongside a 10.25-inch high-resolution digital driver instrument cluster. Passengers are greeted by leatherette seating finished with contrast yellow needlework and carbon-textured dashboard inserts. Convenience amenities include an expansive panoramic glass sunroof, ventilated and power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone automatic temperature control, an electrically operated tailgate, wireless smartphone induction charging, and an extensive suite of connected vehicle telematics.
Hybrid Mechanical Architecture and Comprehensive Active Safety
Underneath the bodywork, propulsion comes from a 1.8-litre petrol internal combustion engine paired with dual electric motors and a compact 1.4 kWh energy storage battery pack. Together, this mechanical setup generates a combined power output of 160 PS. Power delivery is modulated by an automated multi-mode gearbox that switches dynamically between combustion propulsion, pure electric propulsion, and hybrid power splits. City operating evaluations indicate that the SUV can manage up to 80 percent of routine urban transit purely on battery power. On the safety front, the SUV is fitted with 6 standard airbags, electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, and 17 dedicated Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) functions, including adaptive cruise control, lane departure mitigation, and autonomous emergency braking.
