Royal Enfield has launched the brand new Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 to mark the tenth anniversary of the iconic Himalayan name. This motorcycle arrives with modern updates while preserving the simple and rugged adventure character of the original Himalayan 411. Priced at ₹2.29 lakh (ex-showroom), it undercuts the Himalayan 450 significantly, making it a much more accessible choice for budget-conscious riders. Equipped with a 443 cc air/oil-cooled engine, a six-speed gearbox, a 21-inch front wheel, and long suspension travel, this machine is built specifically for off-roading and long-distance touring.
Engine and Performance
The motorcycle draws power from a 443 cc single-cylinder long-stroke engine that churns out 25.4 bhp of power and 34 Nm of torque. Around 90 percent of this torque is available at lower RPMs, which ensures a comfortable riding experience both in city traffic and on rough off-road trails. The inclusion of a 6-speed gearbox helps with low-speed control as well as effortless highway cruising. While the NVH levels have been improved, it does not feel quite as refined as the liquid-cooled Himalayan 450.
Dimensions and Accessibility
Featuring an 800 mm seat height, a generous 220 mm ground clearance, and a 15-litre fuel tank, the bike is easily approachable for everyday riders. It has a kerb weight of approximately 199 kg and delivers a claimed mileage of around 32 km per litre, which combined with the 15-litre tank ensures a decent touring range. The low centre of gravity further assists in maintaining steady control over difficult terrain for riders of various skill levels.
Suspension and Braking Setup
To tackle rough terrains with ease, the bike is fitted with 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheels. It features 200 mm of front suspension travel and 180 mm of rear suspension travel, paired with the 220 mm ground clearance. Safety is handled by a dual-channel ABS system where the rear ABS is switchable, a feature that proves extremely useful when navigating loose dirt or rocky paths during off-road excursions.
Features and Color Options
In terms of electronics and utility, it comes equipped with an LED headlamp, a digital-analogue cluster, a Tripper navigation pod powered by Google Maps, and a USB Type-C charging port. It intentionally skips a TFT display and ride modes, making it an ideal choice for purists who prefer mechanical simplicity. The motorcycle is offered in Sela Black, Mustang Brown, and Nelong White color options. Early production units also feature a special 10th-anniversary badge, and customers can opt for extended warranty plans alongside the standard coverage.
