A major financial empowerment initiative for women is set to roll out in the national capital. The Delhi government, under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, is introducing the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana to provide targeted monetary support. As communicated by the CMO Delhi, eligible female beneficiaries will receive a monthly financial aid of 2,500 rupees deposited directly into their bank accounts. Official online registrations for the welfare program will commence on August 1, 2026, enabling eligible residents across the state to submit their applications.
Cabinet Approval and Disbursement Timeline
The welfare scheme was formally approved during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday. Following administrative clearance, government authorities are preparing to process and verify applicant data efficiently. The administration aims to complete the verification of incoming applications in time to disburse the very first installment by Raksha Bandhan. This initiative fulfils a key campaign promise made by the BJP during the assembly elections held last year.
Residency Rules and Self-Declaration Requirements
To ensure streamlined implementation, the administration has outlined specific application prerequisites. Applicants will be required to submit an official self-declaration confirming that they have been continuous residents of Delhi for a minimum of 10 years. Furthermore, the declaration must state that the applicant has no criminal record. State officials have urged all eligible women to complete their registrations promptly once the portal opens on August 1, 2026, to ensure timely receipt of funds.
Ineligibility Criteria and Exclusion Rules
To ensure that the financial grant reaches the intended socio-economic groups, strict eligibility boundaries have been established. Women belonging to households that meet any of the following conditions will not be eligible to receive benefits under the scheme
- Family Size Limit: Households with more than 3 children are excluded from receiving the grant.
- Vehicle Ownership: Families that own any four-wheeler vehicle do not qualify for the program.
- Electricity Usage Cap: Households whose annual electricity consumption exceeds 2,400 units are ineligible.
- Taxation and Employment Status: Any family with a member who is a registered GST payer or employed in government service is barred from receiving benefits.
