The Delhi government is getting ready to relaunch its women's welfare scheme with a fresh name and a few tweaks. The state's flagship Mahila Samriddhi Yojana has now been renamed the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana. Along with the change in name, the scheme could also see minor revisions in its benefits and eligibility rules. The core aim, however, stays the same, putting money directly into the hands of needy women across the state every month.
The decision to rename the flagship women's welfare scheme was taken in a high-level review meeting chaired by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The Delhi Chief Minister's Office shared the update on the social media platform X.
How Much Money Will Women Get
The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana is currently the newest welfare scheme run by the Delhi government. Under it, eligible women will receive Rs 2,500 every month. This amount will go only to women whose age falls between 21 years and 60 years. Women registered under the scheme will get the monthly allowance transferred straight to their bank accounts through direct bank transfer, leaving no room for middlemen.
Who Is Eligible for the Scheme
Several conditions have been set that applicants must meet to receive the benefit. The first requirement is that the woman applying must have no criminal record in her name. On top of that, no member of her family should have any criminal record either.
Another important condition is that only the eldest eligible woman in a family will get the benefit. In other words, just one woman per family will fall within the scheme's scope. Alongside this, the family's annual income must be less than Rs 2.5 lakh. There is also a rule that a woman who already receives a regular benefit or pension under any government scheme will not be considered eligible for this one.
When Will the Scheme Roll Out
The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana is expected to launch in August. However, the exact date of the launch has not yet been announced. That means women may have to wait a little longer, though preparations are moving ahead quickly.
A Portal Is Being Built for Registration
The government is developing a dedicated portal through which eligible women will be able to register themselves for the scheme. Once this portal goes live, women can log in and complete their registration. Along with the portal, the IT department is also building a separate piece of software.
The purpose of this portal and software goes beyond just registration. It will also help officials verify applications and identify every eligible woman, so that the benefit reaches the right hands. An official announcement is still awaited on which documents will be mandatory for the scheme and when the enrolment portal will go live. As soon as the government releases the full details, women will be able to begin the application process.
