Families involved in fish farming in Azamgarh district, Uttar Pradesh, have a fresh reason to cheer as the state government prepares to hand out financial assistance for buying boats. Under the Nishad Raj Boat Subsidy Scheme, fishermen, particularly from the Nishad community, will get help that is expected to make their work easier and boost their earnings.
Why the scheme was launched
According to the fisheries department, the scheme aims to strengthen the Nishad community and other eligible fish farmers economically. Fisheries officer R.N. Tiwari said fishermen often face multiple problems because of traditional methods and a lack of boats. To address this, the government will provide direct financial grants under the Nishad Raj Boat Subsidy Scheme to help them buy boats. The assistance is expected to let fishermen work more safely on the water while increasing their daily capacity to work. Higher fish production is also expected to raise their livelihood and income.
How to apply online, and the last date
Those interested in benefiting from the scheme can apply online through the fisheries department's official portal. Applications opened on July 9, 2026, and interested candidates can apply through the department's portal, fisheries.up.gov.in, until July 24, 2026. Only those who apply within this window will be eligible for the boat purchase subsidy, so fishermen are being advised to apply as soon as possible.
A help desk for offline applications
For fishermen who cannot apply online, an offline application option has also been kept open. A special help desk has been set up at the Azamgarh fisheries department office for this purpose. Candidates can visit this help desk to get complete information about the application process, required documents and other details of the scheme. The idea behind the help desk is to make sure fishermen in rural areas also get easy access to information about the scheme, so that no eligible beneficiary misses out simply for lack of awareness.
