Public transportation in Madhya Pradesh is set for a massive transformation as authorities prepare to expand the metro network far beyond the boundaries of Indore. Under a newly formulated expansion blueprint, high-speed rail connectivity will be extended to major religious, commercial, and industrial hubs including Ujjain, Dewas, Pithampur, and Mhow. The state government and MPMRCL have intensified detailed project reports and field surveys in active technical coordination with DMRC. The aggregate length of these newly proposed corridors is estimated to span between 84 and 95 kilometers across the region.
Targeting Ujjain Metro connectivity before Simhasth 2028
The highest priority in this ambitious roadmap has been assigned to the regional rapid transit corridor linking Indore and Ujjain. Spanning approximately 48 kilometers, this crucial segment is projected to cost around 10,000 crore rupees. Authorities are working under a strict timeline to operationalize this route ahead of the Simhasth congregation scheduled for 2028. The proposed alignment will originate near Luv Kush square and the airport district in Indore, running parallel to the Indore-Ujjain four-lane highway. Planned stations along this path include Bhanwarsal, Baroli, Dharampuri, Ninora, Triveni Ghat, Nanakheda ISBT, Ujjain railway station, and the Mahakaleshwar temple terminal.
Industrial integration for Pithampur hub
The second major undertaking involves the Indore-Pithampur metro link. Covering a distance of roughly 30 to 35 kilometers, this route is designed to connect Indore directly with Pithampur, which serves as a premier automobile, pharmaceutical, and industrial powerhouse in the state. The layout incorporates routing through Rau to reach the Pithampur Special Economic Zone and the designated smart industrial park. Current projections estimate that this industrial transit corridor will reach completion between 2029 and 2030.
Extending rails toward Mhow and Dewas
Further strengthening regional mobility, an Indore-Mhow metro extension measuring about 18 to 20 kilometers has also been charted. This path will extend past Rajendra Nagar through Rau and AB Road to reach Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Nagar, commonly known as Mhow, with a completion target spanning 2029 to 2031. Additionally, a fourth phase envisions a Dewas-Maksi rapid transit expansion covering a distance of 50 to 55 kilometers. This final segment is planned to run from Dewas Naka in Indore through Mangliya, Shipra, Dewas city, and Vikram Udyogpuri all the way to Maksi junction, effectively uniting multiple Malwa urban centers into an integrated transit grid.
