A severe incident of police violence has surfaced in the Madhubani district of Bihar, where a law enforcement official allegedly opened fire on local residents. The incident took place at Balirajgarh under the jurisdiction of the Babubarhi police station, involving an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) posted in the area. The gunfire resulted in the death of one villager and left three others critically injured, triggering intense panic and anger throughout the local community.
Confrontation Follows Discovery at Woman's Residence
The ASI had been deployed near Balirajgarh for official duty. During his posting, allegations emerged regarding his illicit relationship with a woman residing in an adjacent village. The police official visited the woman's home at night, where local residents reportedly caught the duo in an objectionable situation. As word spread, villagers quickly assembled outside the premises and confronted the officer, leading to a heated argument and chaos at the scene.
Four Rounds Discharged From Official Firearm
Finding himself cornered and outnumbered by the gathering crowd, the ASI pulled out his government-issued service pistol. Instead of resolving the confrontation, the officer allegedly fired four consecutive rounds directly at the surrounding villagers. Four residents, including a villager named Ashok Yadav, sustained severe bullet wounds during the shooting, following which the accused managed to flee the scene amidst the confusion.
One Fatality Reported, Three Others in Critical Condition
Immediate rescue efforts were launched by locals, who rushed all four injured individuals to a nearby medical facility for emergency care. Despite medical intervention, Ashok Yadav succumbed to his severe bullet injuries during treatment. The remaining three victims continue to undergo intensive medical care at the hospital, where attending physicians have described their condition as highly critical.
SSP Visits Crime Scene and Orders Murder Charge
Taking immediate cognizance of the grave situation, Madhubani Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Yogendra Kumar arrived at Balirajgarh in person to inspect the scene and assess the ground reality. SSP Yogendra Kumar stated that departmental action to suspend the accused ASI is currently underway. Furthermore, a formal case of murder is being registered against the absconding police personnel for the fatal shooting.
Special Police Teams Mobilized for Arrest
To apprehend the absconding officer, the district police administration has formed two dedicated special teams. According to the SSP, continuous search operations and raids are being carried out at multiple suspected hideouts to ensure the officer is arrested without delay. The fatal misuse of an official service pistol by an officer has triggered substantial shock within the police department, with investigators actively pursuing the case to secure an early arrest.
