The Bihar government led by Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has taken a major policy decision to reshape the state's academic environment by removing the word "Fail" from student mark sheets. Moving forward, candidates appearing for Class 10 (Matric) and Class 12 (Inter) examinations who do not secure the requisite passing marks will no longer have "Fail" printed on their official certificates. Instead, their mark sheets will explicitly state "Eligible for Skill." The state Education Department is set to issue formal directives to the Bihar School Examination Board to implement this systemic change shortly.
Protecting Student Morale and Encouraging Talent
The announcement was made by Bihar Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari during an extensive late-night review meeting held at the Madan Mohan Auditorium inside Vikas Bhawan. Emphasizing the psychological well-being of young learners, the minister noted that failing to achieve expected grades in a standardized test does not mean a student lacks inherent talent or capability. By replacing demoralizing terminology with constructive phrasing, the administration aims to prevent academic frustration and motivate students to continuously develop their skills without feeling socially stigmatized.
Month-Long Special Classes for Matric Supplementary Candidates
In addition to changing the nomenclature on mark sheets, the education department is launching targeted academic support measures for struggling students. Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari revealed that one-month special preparation classes will be organized for students appearing in the Matriculation supplementary examinations. These intensive remedial sessions are designed to help students strengthen their grasp on difficult subjects, improve their test performance, and successfully clear their compartment exams without losing an academic year.
Launch of Shikshak Sahayog Portal on Teacher's Day
The administrative meeting also finalized the schedule for the upcoming Teacher's Day celebrations on September 5 at Sri Krishna Memorial Hall. Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary will formally inaugurate the grand event in the presence of both Deputy Chief Ministers of the state. As part of the festivities, the Chief Minister will unveil the new "Shikshak Sahayog Portal" aimed at assisting educators across Bihar. Furthermore, one meritorious teacher selected from each of the state's districts will be honored with the prestigious State Award for their outstanding contribution to education.
Participation of Model School Students and Educational Officials
The state-level celebration will feature students from 10 designated model schools in Patna that have been selected under the "Saraswati Vidya Niketan" banner. Teachers and educators from District Institutes of Education and Training (DIET), State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), and various teacher training institutes across Bihar will also attend the ceremony. During the preparatory session, the Education Minister evaluated the financial accounting and expenditure statements of the Bihar Education Project Council alongside other key administrative wings. Education Department Secretary Rajiv Raushan, Special Secretary Dharmendra Kumar, and other senior officials were instructed to maximize resource utilization and execute state educational schemes efficiently.
