A shocking case of domestic violence has surfaced from Bihar's Nalanda district, where a heated quarrel inside a home ended with a husband beating his own wife to death. The accused allegedly grabbed a heavy iron rod lying at home and struck his wife repeatedly until she succumbed on the spot. News of the killing spread quickly, triggering panic in the neighbourhood as locals rushed to the scene.
Where and how the crime took place
The incident occurred in Ward No. 1 under the jurisdiction of the Rahui police station in Nalanda district. The deceased has been identified as Rinki Devi, while her husband, identified as Pankaj Ram, is named as the accused. Family members say Pankaj Ram is not mentally stable and had a history of assaulting his wife on multiple earlier occasions. On Tuesday, an argument broke out between the couple over an unspecified issue, which quickly spiralled out of control. In a fit of rage, the husband picked up an iron rod kept inside the house and struck his wife repeatedly, and she died right there at the scene.
What made the incident particularly disturbing is that the rest of the household was away in the fields at the time, engaged in paddy transplanting work, leaving the couple alone at home. The accused is believed to have taken advantage of this empty house to carry out the attack. Immediately after the killing, he fled the scene, which initially made it difficult for police to trace his whereabouts.
Police launch manhunt and investigation
As soon as word of the killing reached police, a team swung into action. DSP-2 Sanjay Jaiswal rushed to the spot, and he was joined shortly after by Rahui police station in-charge Lalit Vijay along with a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory, or FSL, who began combing the site for evidence. The team cordoned off the area and carried out a detailed examination of the crime scene. According to DSP Sanjay Jaiswal, preliminary findings suggest that a dispute between the husband and wife led directly to the killing.
The accused, Pankaj Ram, remains at large and has evaded arrest so far. Multiple police teams are now conducting raids across nearby localities in an effort to track him down and have intensified surveillance in areas he is suspected of hiding. Police officials have said they are confident of arresting him soon and bringing him to justice, with strict legal action promised once he is caught. The case has once again drawn attention to the issue of domestic violence in the region and the urgent need to act on early warning signs within families.
