A contractual computer teacher named Virendra Kumar has been arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) in connection with the paper leak in the Bihar Police Sub Inspector main examination. The accused allegedly clicked photographs of the confidential question paper right inside the examination centre and transferred them to an organised solver gang. In return for providing the unauthorized access, Kumar was handed an initial payment of 1 lakh rupees as advance money.
Origin of the Probe in Gaya District
The case stems from a criminal investigation originally registered under the Rampur police station limits in Gaya district. The Bihar Police Sub-ordinate Services Commission conducted the main written examination for the recruitment of Police Sub Inspectors across two shifts on May 27, 2026. During the conduct of the exam, attempts were made by certain individuals to assist candidates in cheating with the help of Bluetooth devices and other electronic gadgets. Investigators had already arrested one suspect during the initial stages of the inquiry.
Tracing the Viral Question Paper to Gaya College
As the gravity of the malpractice became evident, the comprehensive inquiry was handed over to the SIT of the Economic Offences Unit. During the ongoing investigation, sleuths came across images of question papers circulating across social media platforms. By tracking the digital footprint of the viral question paper, the investigation team traced its origin directly to the examination centre established at Gaya College. Investigators examined all closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from Gaya College, alongside technical data and records provided by the Bihar Police Sub-ordinate Services Commission. The scrutiny confirmed that the viral paper belonged to examination room number 49 at Gaya College, where the designated candidate had remained absent from the examination.
Photograph Taken Ten Minutes After Exam Began
The sequence established by investigators revealed that the second shift of the examination commenced at 2:30 PM on May 27. Approximately 10 minutes into the test, Virendra Kumar orchestrated the photographing of the question paper that had been gathered from various examination halls. He allegedly executed this with the assistance of a biometric verification staff member stationed at the centre. Operating under a pre-planned criminal conspiracy, the biometric employee assisted in photographing the test paper, which was immediately transmitted to the solver gang. For this unauthorized disclosure, an initial payout of 1 lakh rupees was delivered to the accused.
Links to Private Testing Firm and Earlier Suspicions
Virendra Kumar had been working at Gaya College as a contractual computer teacher since 2025. On the date of the recruitment examination, he had been assigned administrative office duties at the centre, which gave him access to movement across the facility. The investigation further revealed that he had been associated with a private computer-based testing enterprise, BYTES Softech Pvt. Ltd., since 2021. Interrogation and forensic examination of seized digital materials have indicated his suspicious involvement in certain previous examinations as well. Law enforcement officials continue to scrutinize the digital evidence and map the broader network connecting all conspirators.
