Law enforcement authorities targeting illicit intoxicant networks in dry Bihar have uncovered a major consignment of restricted pharmaceutical drugs near Patna. In an operation conducted on Fatuha Road, local police personnel joined forces with the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Department to raid a storage warehouse, intercepting a massive haul of banned codeine cough syrup. Officers examined freight stored inside the facility and confiscated 149 cartons containing 22,850 bottles, amounting to an estimated volume of 2,285 liters.
Raid Triggered by Secret Intelligence
The targeted search followed confidential intelligence indicating that a major consignment of prohibited syrup was being funneled through a legitimate pharmaceutical supply route into a warehouse along Fatuha Road. Acting swiftly on the lead, personnel from the Fatuha police station and the Prohibition and Excise Department coordinated with the on-site security personnel at the logistics facility. The inspection centered on parcels originating from Ranchi, which upon physical verification revealed two separate consignments packed with contraband codeine mixtures.
Two Brands Found Across 149 Cartons
A breakdown of the confiscated cargo confirmed that the bottles were categorized under two distinct product labels, each packaged in 100 ml units. Officers recovered 99 cartons of Ascoff codeine cough syrup containing 14,850 individual bottles. Additionally, the team confiscated 50 cartons of Vixy codeine cough syrup comprising 8,000 bottles. Across both consignments, the combined haul totaled 149 boxes holding 22,850 bottles, representing a significant shipment intended for the unauthorized distribution pipeline.
Suspect Evades Trap After Phone Contact
Following the recovery, investigating officers attempted to ensnare the recipient by dialing the contact number printed on the parcel documentation, instructing the customer to collect the delivery in person. The respondent initially informed callers that a transport vehicle and an assistant were on their way to accept the parcels. However, realizing that law enforcement had secured the facility, the individual quickly switched off the mobile phone to evade apprehension. Police then formally seized the entire inventory and registered Fatuha Police Station Case Number 625/26.
Tracing the Inter-State Logistics Chain
With formal charges initiated, investigators are actively mapping out the entire operational network involved in dispatching, routing, and receiving the banned goods. The inquiry is examining how the consignment traversed interstate routes from Ranchi to reach the Fatuha distribution warehouse and pinpointing the local distribution nodes where the syrup was slated to be delivered next. Law enforcement officials noted that subsequent detentions and legal actions will proceed based on investigative leads uncovered during the technical analysis of the supply chain.
