A shocking incident has come to light in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district, where a woman ward member's husband faced the fury of villagers in Bharathua panchayat under the Aurai police station area after he was found at another woman's house in the middle of the night. Locals caught him, thrashed him severely, and police later took him to hospital for treatment.
Entered the house on the pretext of making a ration card
According to villagers, the accused reached a woman's house in the village at midnight. They allege he entered under the pretext of helping her get a ration card made, but then began misbehaving with her. Locals had already suspected that the man moved in and out of the village under cover of darkness, so once he was caught in the act, the matter escalated quickly and people from nearby homes began gathering.
Tied to a pole, beaten with fists and kicks, garlanded with slippers
As word of the incident spread, dozens of people from the neighbourhood gathered at the spot and seized the accused. According to eyewitnesses, the angry villagers first tied him tightly to a pole and then began thrashing him with kicks and punches. Not just that, he was also beaten with slippers, and to humiliate him further, he was garlanded with slippers around his neck. During the beating, people also hurled abuses at him. Someone in the crowd recorded the entire incident on video, which has since gone viral rapidly on social media, drawing a wide range of reactions.
Accused offers his defence, villagers cite past complaints
The badly injured husband of the ward member defended himself, saying he had gone to the woman's house only in connection with getting her ration card made. However, villagers claim that complaints about his suspicious activities had been made before as well, and there had long been resentment in the area over his conduct. This is why anger among villagers boiled over as soon as the incident came to light, with considerable outrage being seen locally over the matter. Villagers said such behaviour had been spoiling the atmosphere of the village.
Police rescue him from the mob, admit him to hospital
On receiving information about the incident, a Dial-112 police team reached the spot promptly and rescued the accused from the clutches of the angry mob. The badly injured man has been admitted to the Aurai Community Health Centre for treatment. Police say an investigation into the entire matter has been launched. Further legal action will be decided based on the facts that emerge after questioning both sides. For now, the incident continues to be the talk of the entire area.
