A shocking incident has come to light from Rajwara Deoh village under the Mushahari police station limits in Muzaffarpur district, where a 19-year-old newlywed woman named Gunja Kumari was found dead under mysterious circumstances. Her body was recovered from a bed inside her room, bearing deep marks around her neck that deepened the mystery and gravity of the situation. Following the incident, all members of the husband's family fled the house, leaving the premises deserted. Outraged by the tragedy and demanding immediate justice, the deceased woman's maternal family members took the extreme step of cremating her body right outside the main entrance of the in-laws' residence. Local authorities have launched an investigation into the matter.
Love Marriage Background and Dowry Harassment Allegations
According to available details, the victim Gunja Kumari was the daughter of Ranjeet Paswan, a resident of Kanti. She was married on January 23 of this year to Kundan Kumar, the son of Palton Paswan. Reports indicate that the two had entered into a marriage following a love affair. However, allegations of harassment quickly surfaced following the tragedy. The deceased woman's mother Manju Devi and her maternal uncle Chhotu Kumar directly accused the in-laws of torturing her for dowry. The relatives stated that they were preparing to give dowry items on the occasion of Dhanteras, but their daughter passed away before that could happen.
Midnight Alert and Police Intervention at the Scene
Family members stated that they received information about the incident through the local ward member at around 12 midnight. Upon receiving the alert, the maternal relatives rushed to Rajwara Deoh. They alleged that the in-laws were making preparations to cremate the body quietly. As soon as the maternal family arrived, the in-laws fled the spot. Upon receiving information, police reached the scene and inspected the situation. Officers pacified the agitated relatives and took custody of the body, sending it to SKMCH for a post-mortem examination. After the autopsy, the body was handed over to the relatives. Citing a lack of knowledge regarding a cremation ground and a demand for justice, the family performed the final rites directly at the main doorway of the deserted in-laws' home.
FIR Filed Against Husband and Three Others
Following the report of the incident, Mushahari police station sub-inspector Pramod Kumar arrived at the scene with a police force. Mushahari SHO Subodh Mehta stated that based on a written application submitted by the victim's father Ranjeet Paswan, an FIR for dowry death has been registered against husband Kundan Kumar, his brother Chandan Paswan, sister Priyanka, and sister-in-law Sulekha. Police are conducting raids at potential hideouts to apprehend the accused individuals.
FSL Team Gathers Scientific Evidence
Given the seriousness of the case, a special FSL team inspected the crime scene alongside local law enforcement and collected vital scientific evidence. Police stated that whether the newlywed's death was a murder or suicide will only become clear after the post-mortem report and investigation findings are finalized. At present, police are examining all potential angles, including dowry harassment, to uncover the truth.
