Former MLA and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Atar Singh Bhadana, who lost his life following a violent clash over a crusher plant dispute in Rajasthan, was cremated on Monday evening in his native village of Pali. The final rites took place at around 5 pm, drawing a large gathering of local villagers, dignitaries, and political figures. Union Minister of State Krishan Pal Gurjar also reached Pali to pay his final respects to the departed leader and offer condolences to the grieving family.
Presence of Dignitaries and Family
Speaking to attendees during the cremation, Union Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar stated that the sudden demise of Atar Singh Bhadana is a massive loss not only for his community but for the entire region. He asserted that anyone found guilty in this entire sequence of events will face strict action without any leniency. Meanwhile, upon receiving the tragic news of her father's passing, Lahaul-Spiti Deputy Commissioner Kiran Bhadana departed from Himachal Pradesh on Monday morning to reach Faridabad, where her family resides. Overwhelmed by grief, she was seen supporting her sister during the poignant and sorrowful final rites.
The Sequence of the Attack
The incident unfolded on Sunday evening at a crusher plant located in Bhaunda village within Rajasthan's Bharatpur district, where Atar Singh Bhadana was attacked. Reports indicate that a mob of 70 to 80 people arrived armed with wooden batons, sticks, and stones, brutally assaulting Bhadana and his associate Gagan Sharma. Both injured men were initially rushed to Weir Hospital, from where they were referred to SMS Hospital in Jaipur due to their critical condition. Bhadana succumbed to his injuries during treatment at around 11:30 pm.
The Longstanding Land Dispute
The tension stemmed from a dispute over the crusher plant that had persisted for nearly four years between local villagers and the plant operators. Villagers had accused the operators of encroaching on pasture land, conducting illegal mining, and blocking public pathways. Furthermore, the deceased leader's wife, Kamlesh, had alleged that despite repeatedly informing the police and local administration about the brewing dispute, no preventive action was taken.
Administrative Lapses and Court Orders
According to a mining department report, antisocial elements dug up and blocked the main access road to Bhadana's mine in December 2024. Despite clear orders from the Rajasthan High Court, the local administration failed to get the pathway cleared. Following judicial directions, the District Collector formed a committee that reclassified the pasture land on January 30, 2026, designating it as a public thoroughfare. In exchange for this path, Kamlesh, who owned the mine, surrendered 5,250 square meters of her private land in Sita village for pasture use. On March 4, the District Collector instructed the Tehsildar of Weir to execute the order, yet no administrative action followed, ultimately culminating in the attack. Intelligence reports had earlier warned that the access dispute could severely disrupt law and order.
Police Investigation and Deployment
In the wake of the incident, heavy police deployment has been maintained in the village to prevent any escalation. Both sides have accused each other of initiating the attack. The police are currently investigating all aspects of the case, including allegations of gunfire.
