A 25-year-old married woman was found hanging under mysterious circumstances inside a hotel room in the Gobarsahi Chowk area of Muzaffarpur district on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Nigam Kumari, a resident of Teghra in Begusarai district, who was employed as a manager at a real estate firm in Ahmedabad. The discovery of the body triggered immediate panic among the hotel staff, prompting the management to alert the Sadar police station, which dispatched a team to launch an official inquiry.
Discovery Inside Room Number 204
According to investigators, Nigam Kumari had travelled from Ahmedabad and arrived in Begusarai on Sunday. Late Sunday night, she visited the Teghra police station in Begusarai and submitted a written complaint accusing her husband, Madan Kumar, and her in-laws of domestic violence, as well as prolonged mental and physical harassment. Following the submission of her complaint, she travelled to Muzaffarpur and checked into room number 204 at the hotel located near Gobarsahi Chowk, where her identity was later confirmed through the Aadhaar card presented at the reception.
The incident came to light on Monday morning when a room service employee knocked on the door of room number 204 for routine housekeeping. Receiving no response despite repeated knocking, the employee alerted the hotel administration. The hotel manager then inspected the room by looking inside from the adjacent balcony and spotted the woman hanging from the ceiling. The hotel authorities immediately notified the local police control room.
Investigation Into Accompanying Guest and Surveillance Footage
During preliminary questioning, hotel staff disclosed that an individual named Prabhat Kumar had also checked into the hotel alongside Nigam Kumari. However, records indicate that Prabhat checked out and departed from the premises two days prior to the incident. Investigating officers are actively probing this angle to establish the nature of his association with the deceased and to determine why he left earlier.
Recognizing the sensitivity of the situation, the police summoned a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to inspect the crime scene. Forensic technicians examined the room and gathered fingerprints and other physical evidence. Meanwhile, investigators are recording statements from the hotel staff and scrutinizing all closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings from the property to trace the timeline of visitors and assess all movements surrounding the room.
Struggle with Depression and Ongoing Inquiry
Background inquiries revealed that Nigam Kumari was working in Ahmedabad as a manager in the real estate sector. She is survived by two children, who reside in the family village with their father. Family members stated that she had been suffering from clinical depression for some time and was undergoing medical treatment under a homeopathic doctor based in Muzaffarpur.
Sadar Station House Officer Nawlesh Kumar Azad stated that the body was recovered from the ceiling inside the hotel room, noting that the case prima facie appears to be a suicide. However, law enforcement officials emphasized that no possibilities are being ruled out until the inquiry concludes. The body has been transferred to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) for a post-mortem examination. Police officials confirmed that the precise cause of death will be established once the autopsy findings and the forensic lab reports are made available, while formal statements from the relatives are currently being recorded.
