A tragic drowning incident occurred on Sunday morning near the capital city of Bihar, within the Khusrupur police station area of Patna. Three 15-year-old schoolboys went missing in the Ganga river at Adilpur Ghat after being swept away by strong currents and deep waters. The disaster unfolded when two of the boys jumped into the deep section of the river in a desperate attempt to rescue their drowning friend. The sudden disappearance of the three teenagers triggered intense panic along the riverbank and left the local community in deep shock.
How the Drowning Unfolded at Adilpur Ghat
The tragedy took place at approximately 9:30 AM on Sunday. A group of six teenage friends, all residents of Jagmal Bigha village in the Khusrupur police area, had arrived together at Adilpur Ghat to bathe in the Ganga. While in the water, 15-year-old Ankush accidentally drifted into a deep zone and began struggling against the water. Seeing Ankush in immediate danger, his close friends Raunak and Sundaram instantly waded deeper to pull him to safety. However, the powerful river current and immense depth overwhelmed both rescuers as well, causing all three boys to submerge and vanish underwater within moments as their remaining companions watched helplessly from the shore.
Profiles of the Three Missing Classmates
All three missing teenagers were 15 years old and had recently entered Class 11 in the current academic session. They have been identified as Ankush, son of Jitendra Singh; Raunak, son of Rajiv Singh; and Sundaram, son of Ratnesh Singh, all belonging to Jagmal Bigha village. Ankush was the eldest son in his family and has a younger brother. Raunak was the only son of his parents, and Sundaram was likewise the single son of his family. The tragic news has devastated the three households, particularly leaving the families of the two only sons in utter anguish as the entire village mourns the loss.
SDRF Rescue Operation and Local Reactions
Immediately following the incident, local residents initiated preliminary search efforts in the river. Police personnel arrived at the scene shortly after being notified, though grieving family members and villagers voiced frustration over what they described as a delayed police response. Subsequently, a State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) unit reached the location and launched a full-scale search and rescue operation. SDRF personnel are utilizing motorboats and specialized equipment to search the river. However, strong water currents and substantial depth are posing significant hurdles to the rescue team. As of now, no trace of the missing boys has been found, and search operations remain underway.
