A tragic road accident unfolded in the Supaul district of Bihar on Tuesday late evening, when a fast-moving uncontrolled car rammed into a crowd of devotees participating in religious prayers near a temple. The devastating incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Pipra police station area during the Jhulan Parv celebrations, resulting in the immediate death of three people and leaving three others critically injured. The sudden crash triggered widespread panic and sparked intense protests among local residents.
Tragedy Strikes During Religious Celebrations at Temple
According to local accounts, villagers had gathered near the Bajrangbali temple situated at Kataiya Goth Chowk to participate in traditional bhajan-kirtan as part of the Jhulan festival. As the devotees were engaged in singing devotional songs, a speeding car approaching from the direction of Pipra suddenly lost control and veered straight into the gathering. The vehicle moved at such a high speed that people present at the site had no time to move away, causing multiple worshippers to be struck directly. Screams of horror filled the air as bystanders rushed to help the victims.
Casualties Identified and Injured Rushed to Supaul Hospital
Three devotees lost their lives on the spot due to the severe impact of the collision. The deceased have been identified as 45-year-old Surendra Yadav, a resident of Ward 15 in Kataiya Panchayat, along with 65-year-old Tilai alias Tilo Das and 50-year-old Raju Das, both residents of Ward 12. Additionally, three other individuals sustained serious injuries in the accident, identified as Bhubaneshwari Yadav, Ramchandra Yadav, and Krishna Mohan Sah. Emergency assistance was provided immediately, and all three injured persons were transported to Sadar Hospital Supaul for urgent medical treatment.
Driver Attempts Escape Before Crashing Into Nearby Garage
Following the fatal crash, the car driver did not stop to render aid and instead attempted to speed away from the scene. However, after traveling a short distance, the driver lost control once again, crashing the vehicle into a nearby garage. Fortunately, neither the garage owner nor any workers were inside the facility at the time, preventing another major disaster. Police personnel arrived shortly afterward and seized the damaged vehicle as part of the ongoing investigation.
Angry Villagers Block NH-327E Demanding Action and Compensation
As news of the three fatalities spread across the locality, tension mounted rapidly, leading to angry outbursts from community members. Protesters blocked both the Supaul-Pipra main road and National Highway 327E (NH-327E), halting traffic completely. Long lines of vehicles built up on both sides of the highway as villagers demanded immediate legal action against the driver and fair monetary compensation for the families of the deceased.
Police Officers Camp at Site as Investigation Continues
Upon receiving information about the blockade, teams from the Pipra police station along with senior officials, including Sadar Inspector Sanjay Yadav, Sadar SDM Manohar Kumar Sahu, and Cyber DSP Saurabh Gupta, reached the spot. The administrative officers engaged with the aggrieved crowd, reassuring them that strict measures would be enforced against those responsible. Police forces remain deployed at the scene to maintain order. Law enforcement authorities are currently verifying the vehicle registration details to identify the owner and trace the fleeing driver, while local residents have raised serious questions regarding speed limits and safety protocols on NH-327E near places of worship.
