A devastating road accident in the West Champaran district of Bihar has left an entire community in deep grief after a runaway bus crashed directly into a crowd gathered by the roadside. The tragic incident occurred late at night within the jurisdiction of the Lauriya police station area along the Bettiah-Lauriya main road near Parau Tola Bankatwa. A speeding passenger bus suddenly spun out of control and careened into an ongoing orchestra event, leaving five people dead on the spot and several others injured, triggering immediate panic and chaos at the site.
Celebrations Turned into Mourning on the Sixth Day
According to details gathered from the location, a sixth-day childbirth celebration known as Chhathiyar was underway at the residence of a local resident named Shatrughan Dubey in Bankatwa. To mark the happy family occasion, an orchestra program had been organized by the roadside where a large gathering of villagers and onlookers had assembled. Amidst the festive atmosphere, a passenger bus traveling from Gorakhpur toward Bettiah attempted to avoid a collision with an oncoming truck, causing the driver to lose total control. The heavy vehicle veered off the road and plowed straight into the crowd attending the celebration.
A Father Lost on His Child's Special Day
Family members of the victims stated that five lives were lost in the horrific mishap. The deceased have been identified as Bahadur Mahato, Sanjay Kumar, Bhola Dubey, Devendra Dubey, and Chhangur Ram, all residents of Bankatwa. However, local police authorities have not yet issued an official confirmation regarding the final death toll of five. The most tragic aspect of the tragedy is that Devendra Dubey, one of the deceased, was the father of the newborn whose Chhathiyar ceremony was being celebrated at that very moment. The household that was rejoicing over the arrival of a new family member was instantly plunged into profound sorrow.
Injured Hospitalized at GMCH Bettiah
Upon receiving urgent information about the crash, the Lauriya police station team rushed to the scene and, with the active assistance of local residents, arranged ambulances to transport the injured to GMCH Bettiah. Among those identified as injured in the accident are Vinay Kumar Yadav, Shyam Babu, Moti Chandra Mahato, and Naresh Ram, who are currently receiving medical treatment. Eyewitness and brother of one of the deceased, Jaiprakash Mahato, recounted that the speeding vehicle suddenly barreled into the crowd without warning, creating absolute panic as multiple attendees were struck down.
