Prominent music composer Amaal Mallik has announced a temporary step back from film music to focus entirely on his health and well-being. Sharing a detailed update on the social media platform X on 27 August, the artist explained that he needs time away from work before making a fresh musical comeback. Concerns grew among fans after he posted a picture from a hospital bed on his Instagram Stories. This sabbatical announcement arrives just weeks after Mallik publicly addressed intense criticism regarding his song 'Ye Awarapan' from the Emraan Hashmi starrer 'Awarapan 2', where he alleged that a targeted paid PR campaign was orchestrating negative publicity against his work.
Hospitalization and Sabbatical Details
In a detailed note shared with his audience, Amaal Mallik confirmed that he will not be taking on or composing any new film music projects until next year. He expressed that taking this break is essential for restoring his physical, mental, and spiritual strength. He emphasized the necessity of allowing his body and mind time to heal completely so that he can return with renewed energy and compose new melodies for his listeners.
Alongside his message, Mallik shared a photo on Instagram showing him lying in a hospital bed attached to a medical drip. Reflecting on his current situation, he added a brief caption stating, "This is the result of too much 'Awarapan'." The post triggered an outpouring of support and well wishes from fans concerned about his health condition.
Status of Unreleased Projects and Core Music Journey
Clarifying the status of his upcoming work, Mallik mentioned that while new film compositions remain paused until next year, several of his previously recorded tracks will still see the light of day. These songs belong to lower-budget, independent film projects crafted with good intent that often struggle to secure theatrical distribution. He gently requested his followers not to press him for release updates, assuring them that he will share official announcements as soon as concrete details emerge.
Reflecting on his artistic trajectory, the composer noted that his career journey from core music into mainstream cinema had taken him down a long path. He stated that he is now steering his focus back toward fundamental music making. Signing off temporarily, he asked fans for patience and promised a strong return once his health fully recovers.
Controversy Over 'Ye Awarapan' and Industry Pressures
The hiatus comes on the heels of discussions surrounding his latest composition 'Ye Awarapan' from the film 'Awarapan 2'. Celebrating the song's streaming success, Mallik had openly spoken about the hostility and criticism aimed at his music in recent weeks. He alleged that visible paid PR efforts were deployed to undermine his work, causing him significant distress, anger, and restlessness during one of the most difficult phases of his professional career.
However, Mallik maintained that true audience appreciation holds far more value than numerical metrics, streaming charts, or internal industry politics. He observed that the aggressive reaction toward his composition only proved how deeply the melody had impacted listeners. Interestingly, the song 'Ye Awarapan' features vocals by renowned singer Arijit Singh, who had announced his retirement from playback singing earlier this year in January.
