In a dedicated effort to improve crop yield and lower production costs for local farmers, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Bahraich has launched a comprehensive field trial involving around 20 different paddy varieties. Established in 1984, this institution ranks among the oldest agricultural science centers in India and consistently works toward resolving farming challenges. The current initiative focuses on analyzing how various rice strains interact with the region's specific soil composition and climatic conditions.
Testing Suitability Across Soil and Climate
According to Senior Scientist Dr. Shailendra Singh, cultivating 20 paddy varieties side by side allows researchers to evaluate which strain offers the highest productivity under local environmental factors. The scientific team is closely monitoring growth patterns, pest resistance, and climate resilience across all planted varieties. Recommendations will be made to the farming community only after the completion and thorough evaluation of these experimental trials.
Dual Benefits: Lower Expenditure and Higher Yields
This scientific trial promises significant advantages for the agricultural community in the district. Selecting seeds tailored to the specific soil and weather of the area eliminates unnecessary applications of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and excessive irrigation. Consequently, overall cultivation expenses will drop noticeably. At the same time, adopting high-performing varieties optimizes per-acre output, enabling farmers to achieve better profit margins and sustainable income growth.
Long-Term Guidance and Scientific Support
Senior Scientist Dr. Shailendra Singh emphasized that the primary goal of the center is to equip farmers with efficient, high-yielding rice varieties that maximize profits while minimizing upfront investments. Once the research phase yields conclusive data, the center plans to conduct training sessions to guide farmers on selecting the ideal seeds for their specific land types. Beyond trial research, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra maintains continuous engagement with the agricultural community, offering ongoing technical advice, problem resolution, and modern farming techniques to foster long-term agricultural prosperity.
