Customers across different states need to plan their financial tasks ahead as financial institutions will observe a total of 15 non-working days in September 2026. This extensive list includes regular weekend breaks alongside numerous regional celebrations, cultural festivals, and localized events that will keep bank branches shut in various parts of the country.
Weekend and Regular Closures
Standard weekend scheduling applies as usual throughout the month. Four Sundays falling on September 6, 13, 20, and 27 will see all nationwide branches closed. Furthermore, the second Saturday on September 12 and the fourth Saturday on September 26 will prompt countrywide bank holidays. Aside from these routine weekly breaks, regional festivals and administrative events will account for another nine non-working days across different states.
State-Wise Holiday Schedule
- September 4: Banks will remain closed across the country except in Tripura, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Delhi, and Goa on the major occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami.
- September 11: Local bank branches in Jaipur will stay shut due to municipal corporation elections scheduled in the city.
- September 12: Financial institutions in Assam will observe a holiday on the Tirobhav Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva.
- September 14: Maharashtra, Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Goa, and Andhra Pradesh will observe closures for Ganesh Chaturthi, Ganesh Puja, Varasiddhi Vinayaka Vrata, Vinayaka Chaturthi, and Hartalika Teej.
- September 15: Gujarat, Odisha, and Goa will keep banks closed for Samvatsari, Nuakhai Festival, and the second day of Ganesh Chaturthi.
- September 21: Assam and Kerala will witness bank closures on the occasion of Srimanta Sankardeva and Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi Day.

Extended Three-Day Shutdown in Sikkim
Sikkim residents will encounter a continuous three-day bank closure spanning from September 25 to September 27. The sequence begins with the Indrajatra festival on September 25, followed directly by the fourth Saturday on September 26 and the standard Sunday weekly off on September 27, resulting in a three-day pause in physical banking services.
