The first day of the month has brought welcome news for businesses squeezed by rising costs. Oil marketing companies have trimmed the price of the 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder by Rs 183.50. The move directly helps restaurants, dhabas, hotels and everyone in the food business, whose daily running costs hinge on this very cylinder. The revised rates have come into effect from today, July 1, 2026.

What the 19 kg cylinder costs now

After the latest cut, the 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder will now be available for Rs 2930. Before this reduction, the same cylinder was costing Rs 3113.50. Ordinary households, however, have been left out this time. There has been no relief on the 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder, whose price stays put at Rs 942, exactly where it was.

How things went off track

The root of this rollercoaster lies in a major event earlier this year. On February 28, attacks carried out by the United States and Israel on Iran triggered a severe energy crisis across the world. In response, Iran shut down movement for ships carrying crude oil and gas through the Strait of Hormuz, which it controls. With supply choked off, prices of petrol, diesel and gas shot up sharply everywhere.

Commercial cylinder had jumped Rs 1374.50 in four rounds

Once energy supply through the Strait of Hormuz was disrupted, the price of the commercial LPG cylinder in India was raised four times in quick succession. Citing heavy losses, the companies pushed up rates by Rs 144 in March, Rs 195.50 in April and a steep Rs 993 in May. June saw another Rs 42 added on top. In all, the 19 kg commercial cylinder had become dearer by a total of Rs 1374.50 across these four hikes.

Domestic cylinder too rose Rs 89 in two steps

The 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder also carried a heavier burden during this stretch, going up by a combined Rs 89 in two rounds. The first increase of Rs 60 came in March, followed by another Rs 29 in June. That is why, even with the commercial cylinder now getting cheaper, households have not felt any easing on their wallets.

What this means for you

  • For businesses: Restaurants, dhabas and hotels will save Rs 183.50 on every 19 kg cylinder, easing kitchen running costs a little.
  • For households: The domestic 14.2 kg cylinder stays at Rs 942, so home kitchens get no relief on their gas bill this time.
